Imagine giving your lawn mower most of the summer off. Instead of blasting around the yard behind the mower every Saturday, you could relax and enjoy the peace and quiet.
No-mow lawns are not so low-maintenance that they’ll allow you to park the lawn mower permanently, but these special low-growing grass blends take almost all the work out of a lawn. They save time, gas, water and fertilizer.
“We don’t even recommend using fertilizer,” says Neil Diboll, owner of Prairie Nursery (www.prairienursery.com) in Westfield, Wis. “I never fertilize mine, and I never use herbicides.”

Dandelions and a multitude of weeds, including poison ivy. Coyotes, fisher cats, deer, hawks, hummingbirds, rose-breasted grosbeaks, cardinals, pileated woodpeckers, and the exotic ladies next door. It's a jungle out here. :)

That would make too much sense.

I’d cover my yard in concrete and blacktop and make me some giant chess peices on wheels so the whole neighborhood could play a game

Good for you, Sir! We lived recently in (what I assume was) a different part of the country, and got our 'noxious weeds' under control by spending several weeks a year pulling them out of the ground by hand. (Die, you b@stard, die, and your offspring with you!!! ;>) Worked great (better than chemicals) for several reasons! But a lot more work than I want to remember...

I spend a good bit of time pulling weeds. I tell myself it’s a moment of zen. :)

It's good exercise, if nothing else! But it pissed off our trash collection guys (because of all of the bags of weeds it produced), so we ended up doing multiple runs to the county dump with the F-250...

They passed a law here in Allen Tx that would fine you $350 per day for an improperly posted garage sale sign.

Most cities have ordancies that require a certain degree of upkeep. I know that some will mow the lot and charge you and if you don’t pay it goes on your property tax bill with interest..... Run down property takes some effort to get demolished but most cities provide for that also.

I wonder if that is why the second hand clothing / furniture stores and pawn shops are thriving. You can’t HAVE a garage sale anymore - the permits cost more than you’d make.
Me, I use craigslist.

Speaking of Ohio, couldn’t help noticing the conspicuous absence of Kucinich in the headlines.....

I understand a fine for poor upkeep that draws vermin and health problems too the community yet .........jail ? Nope I do not agree with jail ! Compound the fines unpaid if the owner openly defies the law and the notices and then have a sheriff sale if need be but not jail.

It may well be the case simultaneously that different locales both prohibit and mandate lawn mowing. Hm.

I see this as being a property rights question.
Why should 10 people who live on a block be penalized with lower property values because one or two dorks want to let their weeds grow waist high?
As far as whoever posted "Just do it yourself" they apparently have a far higher opinion of human nature than I do.
how long do they think that a neighbor is going to see what's going on and decide to stop mowing their lawn to see who will come over and do it for them?
