The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in Connecticut finds Barack Obama attracting 47% of the vote while John McCain earns 44%. Given that choice, 4% would opt for some other candidate while 5% are not sure.
In early March, Obama led McCain by twelve percentage points. However, that poll was conducted before Obamas controversial former pastor, Jeremiah Wright, became part of the campaign dialogue. Currently, Obama is viewed favorably by 57% of Connecticut voters. That rating is down ten percentage points since March.
McCain is viewed favorably by 54%, down four points from the previous survey.
In Connecticut, Obama leads among voters under 50 while McCain has the edge among older voters. McCain is supported by 77% of Republicans and has a five-point advantage over Obama among unaffiliated voters. Obama leads 67% to 21% among Democrats. Twelve percent (12%) of Democrats say they would vote for a third-candidate or are currently undecided.
McCain leads among voters who earn $40,000 to $75,000 annually. Obama leads among those who earn less than $40,000 a year and among those who earn more than $75,000.
Rasmussen Markets data shows that Democrats are currently given a 93.0 % chance of winning Connecticuts seven Electoral College votes. Democrats have won the state in four consecutive elections, the last three by double digits. Prior to that, the state voted for the GOP in five straight elections from 1972 to 1988. With release of this poll, Connecticut shifts from Safely Democratic to Likely Democratic in the Rasmussen Reports Balance of Power calculator.
Just 25% of Connecticut voters say that George W. Bush is doing a good or an excellent job as President. Most55%--say he is doing a poor job.
The reviews for Republican Governor Jodi Rell are much more positive. Fifty-five percent (55%) say she is doing a good or excellent job. Just 13% say she is doing a poor job. Rell has been mentioned by some as a potential Vice-Presidential running mate for John McCain.
Fifty-nine percent (59%) of Connecticut voters say it is more important to get the troops home from Iraq than to win the war. Thirty-two percent (32%) disagree and say that victory is more important.
If McCain is elected, 45% say it is at least somewhat likely that the U.S. will win the War. Just 20% say victory is that likely if Obama is elected. However, 60% believe that a President Obama is at least somewhat likely to get the troops home within four years. Only 39% believe a President McCain is likely to accomplish that goal.

I hope you are right. This election worries me.
“Obama has way too many blue states to defend “
Yup.
If even the loony left liberals in Connecticut are cheesed off at Obama from the Jeremiah Wright/Pflager hate speech/anti-semitic rants, so much so that McCain is running neck and neck with Obama there, then Obama has no chance of wining in November
As all presidential races go, this one is about in the bag for the Republicans as any president election can be. The press know this but will they will not acknowledge it because they want a horse race until November.
Obama has Ned Lamont's voters plus minorities, which is a substantial winning margin.
This election doesn’t worry me at all.
Even without anyone lifting a finger to attack him, Obama and his close/spiritual advisers have been busy pressing the self destruct button nearly every week.
And I am fairly certain there are plenty more hate-filed tapes from Obama cronies yet to come. They are going to keep popping right onto the November elections.
Obama is toast.
I agree with you..there’s no way Obama’s going to win. I’d stake my life savings on it.
Don’t worry, the MSM will truly do all that they can really do to politically beat up McCain and make this a close race that could go either way. I’m truly much more concerned about the overall political makeup of the next Congress. Enough conservatives in the next Congress can truly slow down the move towards U.S. socialism no matter who the next President is while a very socialistic next Congress will turn the entire U.S. into a long-term third world socialistic country no matter who the next President is.
Despite Shrillery’s skeletons in her closet, she and Slick Willy avoided jail time because of their experience. This clown Hussein has no business in our government other than to destroy it. This is a Dennis Kucinich in Rev. Jackson’s clothing. The town of Alameda, California just declared bankruptcy. I say to Obama...go to Alameda and if you can guide them out of their mess, then run for County commissioner, then after 10-15 years, run for State Senator, and when you are 65 or so try running for Wash. D. C. dog catcher!
I hate living in CT. I am surrounded by liberals. After GWB it’s anybody but a republican Obamaination wins it. Damn, I am still looking for an alternate republic to move to.
Can you be more specific than you have been - how specifically do you believe the Rasmussen poll is flawed?
McCain will keep all of the red states from 2004 and gain PA. What is interesting to watch - Obama’s lead dwindling in California.
If this continues, Obama is finished before he begins in the general election. But, this is excellent news.
Dream on newbie.
It’s Amnesty McGreen who is in trouble, along with the RINO infested GOP. The 527’s haven’t even started to kick in yet, which will destroy your “hero”. (527’s are the product of McCain/Feingold if you haven’t noticed.)
WE (Conservatives) can thank the direction the GOP has taken us the last 8 years.
Too many people think Connecticut is only Fairfield County, so they think of the entire state as a affluent suburb of NY, which would be wrong. Outside of Fairfield County, you have urban decay (New Heinous, Hartford) and blue collar milltowns/suburbs (Middletown, New Britain, Ansonia, Windsor Locks). The rural area (Litchfield County in particular) still lean pubby, but aren't enough to counterbalance the aforementioned concentrations of population.
Obama is losing even in NH, a state that even John Kerry won, while still losing the presidential elections in 2004.

You are the one that is living in dreamland, dude.
