The neighbors will pretend not to see the stike packages
transiting their airspace. The diplomatic groundwork is
being laid as we speak. All the neighbors would just
as soon not have a nuclear armed Iran.

We will make sure that tankers are orbiting as needed.

oh this 500 sniper rifles from steyr. i´m pretty shure they will not use it to shoot down israeli war planes. :-)

No, they only are used to kill American soldiers in Iraq.

a little of topic but this has never been confirmed steyr was never asked to hand over the serial numbers of the rifles they have sold to iran . they offered it to the USA but they were never asked. btw. there was no legal way for austria to prevent the company from selling this weapons. it was checked here but there is no law against selling “small arms” to a country in “peace” times.

What planet have you been on?

Let’s see, Osirac in 1981, Entebbe in 1976,

Hell, Syria last year.

They can and will do it at a time of their own choosing. You can rest assured that when Netanyahu becomes PM again

well i was 4 years old in 1981 so this may exucuse why i didn´t realise osirac ;-) but anyway the weapons have changed much since this time. and iran is a now a local military power in the ME. so it won´t be as easy like to bomb syria for example.

From what I read, Syria had purchased some “high-tech” anti-air systems from Russia. These were supposed to be state-of-the-art defenses. Israel bypassed all of this, and destroyed their nuke site.

I don’t think the Iranian defenses are as formidable as you seem to assume they are, austrian. By the way, personal attacks are something I expect when debating liberals. I realize that politics are a passionate subject, but if you really believe that you are right about something, then you should be willing to defend your point on the merits themselves.

Looking at some of your other posts in the forum leads me to believe that you, as a european, does not care a wit about Israel or their military capabilities. Your only “concern” here is that Israel may violate “international law” by attacking Iran, as you put it. I’ll wager that you also believe that Iran deserves to possess nukes just as Israel has them. You’re probably one of them european “moral relativists” who care not a hoot about what is right and what is wrong, just as long as “international law” (or some other joke) doesn’t get violated.

Typical euro-weenie mentality.

It definitely won't be a cakewalk like the recent attack on Syria was, there will be a lot of risk.

However, the fact is that Israel eventually is going to have no choice but to do it regardless of the risk. Islamofascist Iran is Israel's mortal enemy, and a nuclear Iran is an existential threat to that country and would eventually spell out the end for them.

>>big words. but not very realistic. israel would think twice to attack iran on their own that´s for shure.”

Not big words, Israel can attack Iran without the help of the U.S.

Israel usually consults the U.S. before launching strikes, but they don't necessarily wait for us to act.

Consider the recent war with Hezbollah, the strike on a Syrian nuke site, and the attack on an Iraqi nuclear site years back.

>>What would Israel have to lose?”

Bingo! they have their nation to lose, this is exactly the reason they WILL ultimately attack (with our assistance) sometime soon.

By the way, I favor civility when posting, not personal attacks such as stupid or retard. That’s just plain mean spirited.

Transport Minister Shaul Mofaz

Buses need oil. Oil is very expensive, makes Transport Minister angry. Good thing Transport Minister has no jet bombers.

i have to disagree. i just tried to point out the difficults of an attack on iran and my personal impression of this situation. if this looks like i´m pro iran or for the destruction of israel (btw. i´m against it!) that´s your personal impression.i may not be a big fan of israel AND Iran politics like most europeans but this is an other point we can discuss sometimes if you want) but this was not what i tried to express in this topic. i just tried to have a neutral stand on both sides and bring in my personal thoughts on the military difficultis israel would face if they attack iran.

austrian is just posting his opinion. Calling him a euro-weenie and a retard is pretty immature, at best. That's what the DU’ers do to each other.

If Israel attacks Iran, they WILL receive help from us, in the form of SIGINT, MASINT, ELINT and a whole lot of other INT’s. They will also receive a variety of other types of assistance, such as radar jamming and quite possibly some SOF eyes on targets. We have a tremendous military presence surrounding Iran. Israel may not need our help, but they're going to want it and they're going to get it.

As far as retaliation, it could be pretty bad. The IDF is awesome, but let's face it, they had their hands full with Hezbollah two years ago. I'm sure they learned from their mistakes, but the Iranians will fight dirty.

agreed. maybe they will have to do it anyway sometime in the future. but like you i only tried to point out that this will not be the cakewalk many on this message board may think. and because of that i think that israel shure would think twice before they will start an attack.

i may not be a big fan of Israel AND Iran politics

I'm not a big fan of Iranian politics either when Amadinejad says things like "Israel must be wiped off the map" or "Death to America".

But how can one not be a fan of Israel?

Israel is the victim of a constant barrage of missile attacks and previously, suicide bombings.

Israel has managed to stand up to the onslaught of the combined armies of the Arab world.

Israel has managed to become a thriving democracy, granting rights to Arab Muslims that they don't enjoy in their native countries.

I have to say that I am a big fan of Israel. I'm proud that the United States stands with Israel and hope it continues to do so far into the future.

To not be a fan of Israel, one would have to not appreciate Democracy, human rights, the right of of a people to defend itself, and outright human ingenuity and tenacity.

To not be a fan of Israel denotes either hatred, ignorance or emptiness within.

But how can one not be a fan of Israel?

i and many many others here in europe (but naturally not all) just don´t agree with most of their politics. i admit they live in a very hostile enviroment. but i guess they use the wrong way dealing with it. you have to understand that most of europe feels sorry for the palestinians. i have the impression that the media reports a lot more critical here about israel in generall then in the Usa but thats not the point. israel is seen as sort of agressor in most parts of europe. don´t get me wrong every one would grant them their right for self defence and security. but we think they overact in many ways. it should be mentioned that israel is sometimes seen as some kind of “softer” nazi state here. (i know most people here will eat me alive for this comment but i just try to give an impression of the different views many americans and europeans have when the theme is israel). no one here (not the sharpest critics here would cheer if the next school bus with little kids get blown up that´s for shure) but most of us just don´t differ between an israeli kid who gets killed by an terrorist attack and a palestinian kid who gets killed by an air strike for retaliation. and after watching this useless deaths on both sides for so long (and without ending in sight) many here have the impression that israel is the same way to blame for all this violence then the other sides. and especial for austrian people it should be said that maybe they tried (not jews in general but the state of israel) to play the nazi card one time too often long long time ago. so the relation between the state of austria and israel have never been the best for example if not to say they have been very bad. and if you mention human rights i do not think that israel is a shinig light in this world when it comes about human rights for example. ask norway for example the mossad killed one of their citizens in norway because they wrongly thought that he is a terrorist. you don´t make friends if you violate our laws and murder people in europe. or they bombed a UN observation post killing several european un soldiers. so there is much dislike here in europe. or seeing videos where IDF soldiers using childs as human shields doesn´t make you popular here in good old europe....
it should be said that i cannot speak for all people here in europe because every where there is diversity (this is human) i just tried to give a little impression and a few examples why many people are not pro israel here in europe. but i should admit that i do not know anybody here who would say that they should be wiped of the map for example.
i hope i was able to make a point why europe mostly behaves different when it´s about israel. i´m not here to judge who is right or wrong i just tried to give a little impression.
