Seeking Free Home, Ex-Legislator Will Get a Prison Cell Instead (NY)

Calling her actions “an outrageous breach of trust,” a judge sentenced Diane M. Gordon, a former state assemblywoman from Brooklyn, to two to six years in prison on Thursday for offering to help a developer acquire city land if he would build her a house free.

Ms. Gordon, a four-term Democrat from East New York, will be eligible for parole after 20 months. Prosecutors had sought a longer sentence — the maximum was 10 years — arguing that not only had Ms. Gordon tried to get a free house, not even in her district, but that even after her indictment, she had the gall to run for re-election, which she won. “The defendant held on to the seat she defiled,” said Michel Spanakos, the lead prosecutor.

Ms. Gordon’s lawyer argued that she should be sentenced to community service. Before the judge, Justice Robert C. McCann of State Supreme Court in Brooklyn, delivered the sentence to a courtroom filled with the former assemblywoman’s supporters, Ms. Gordon, speaking in a low, steady voice, offered regrets.

“I apologize to my family, my friends, my supporters and my community,” she said. “Any leniency the court extends would be greatly appreciated.”

After reading the sentence, the judge ordered that the courtroom be cleared to allow Ms. Gordon, 58, time alone with her family before she was taken into custody. She was taken to jail, but her lawyers have asked that she be freed while she appeals her conviction. The judge has not yet...

Several people have been mentioned as possible candidates for her Assembly seat, including City Councilman Charles Barron, as well as his wife, Inez Barron; Earl Williams, the Assembly district’s Democratic Party leader; and Winchester Key, who unsuccessfully challenged Ms. Gordon in a primary. The election will be held later this year.

These are places where no amount of corruption will ever break the plantation / victim psychosis. From one politico to another, just change the names.

Wow the Times actually admitted she is a Dem? Usually you have to play "Name That Party" when it's a lefty politico in the wringer.

Well, she got her free home in prison. She will be a guest there, all expenses paid by the taxpayers.

Republicans get exposed for something illegal and they get hounded out of office.

Democrats get exposed for something illegal and they get reelected...

Says a lot about the character differences between the voters of each party.

Sometimes the voters are irrelevant, for instance; the Gregoire's "victor" in Washington State...

Peter Schweizer: Conservatives more honest than liberals? (Relatively speaking, well, er, yes.)

I’m shocked - SHOCKED, I tell ya. The NYTimes actually stated that she was a Democrat within the first ten paragraphs. Heads will roll for this at the Slimes.

Doesn't even have to be illegal just stated in the right way over and over.

It took me quite awhile to find all those pictures, size them, and create the mocking collage of Diane Gordons. :)
