Scoot Around These Gas Prices
self | 06/16/2008 | vanity

Anybody want to talk about scooters and mini bikes? Face it, with these gas prices the idea makes sense. I have one that gets 80 MPG and tops out at 45 MPH. It cost less than $1500 and, in the State of Georgia, for less than 50cc, there is no registration, no advalorum tax and no special operator's license. Plus the insurance costs about $120 a year and there are special parking places available.

I know these aren't Harley's, alright? But they sure are fun and CHEAP!!

Anyone with any experience in these things please chime in. I'm considering buying another one.

To be fair there should be a photo of one after an accident. Mileage is great until they have to pry a mangled carcass out from the wheel well of an Escalade who’s driver was momentarily distracted.

My son drove one the other day and loved it. I guess it would be fine for tooling around locally. And, until the weather gets bad again, you know, 8 months out of the year! lol j/k, winter isn’t that long but it seemed that way this year.

Yep.

It is sad that our current slate of Republican and Democrat representatives are too f-ing stupid to realize that American’s want to diminish our reliance on foreign oil and drill in the USA.

We have only had warnings since the Nixon administration that relying on the middle east for energy was not a fiscally wise idea for the United States.

Now we are being economically punished by $60 to $100 fill ups at the gas pump with the profits going to our enemies.

The new Vespas are rather nifty. Piaggio also has a three wheel model with two wheel up front (independent suspension for each front wheel) and one in the back.

I drove a Honda Spree during the First Gulf War, and for a few years after. It was 7 miles to work. I loved it. However, my sense of balance became so bad and I turned it over a few times (scraped knees were the worst injury but I didn’t want to push my luck) and finally sold it. If I get another scooter it will have 3 or 4 wheels on it. Maybe a Zap.

You really have to watch the condition of the road in front of you-especially broken glass and other clutter, and storm drains that you can drop your wheels into. The second big concern is for decent review mirrors to keep a close eye on traffic getting too close to your rear.

My wife works at a hospital. All the nurses and doctors there call you guys who ride scooters and motorcycles ORGAN DONORS

because unfortunately, quite a few of you end up that way.

Guess the family can put on your headstone, “He saved a coupla bucks on gas”

They are okay for in town, but I’d probably get killed on the way to work by a Flying J fuel delivery truck doing 70 MPH...

Yeah, it's weird - but how about a A Motorcycle You Can Wear?

Scooters are like fat chicks: they’re fun to ride, but you wouldn’t want your friends to see you on one.

We are awash in 18 wheelers, concrete and dump trucks complete with Mexican drivers as well as a lot of long haulers from Canada. These may be fine for those in a metro city where there are none of these or Metro busses but not in our area. I’ll stick with my gas-guzzling SUZ and at least have some protection. Cute but no thanks anyway.

Can you say that just a little louder? I don’t think they heard you at the South Pole.

The same could be said of a bicycle or motorcycle.

Which is all mine is capable of. You can't go 45 mph in a 50 MPH zone and expect to survive it when all you've got around you is air.

LOL. The tank on the thing is about 2.5 liters. We fill it up so seldom that we literally forget to gas it.

Plus, if you have an accident, it will cost you big time.

Good analogy.
