Report: Gloucester Teens Had Pact To Get Pregnant

GLOUCESTER (WBZ) ― There's a stunning twist to the sudden rise in teen pregnancies at Gloucester High School. 17 students there are expecting and, according to a published report, most of them became that way on purpose.

Time Magazine is reporting that nearly half of the girls confessed to making a pact to get pregnant and raise their babies together. None of the girls is older than 16.

Principal Joseph Sullivan said that wasn't all that was shocking.

"We found out one of the fathers is a 24-year-old homeless guy," he told Time.

Last month, two top officials at the high school's health center resigned in a fight over contraceptives distribution.

Medical Director Dr. Brian Orr and chief nurse practitioner Kim Daly support confidentially giving contraceptives to students. They were outraged about resistance from Addison Gilbert Hospital, which administers the state public health grant that funds the school clinic.

Normally, the school has about four pregnancies per school year.

According to Time, school officials started looking into the spike in pregnancies after an unusual number of girls came to the school clinic for pregnancy tests. Some came by several times.

"Some girls seemed more upset when they weren't pregnant than when they were," Sullivan told the magazine.

The pregnant girls and their parents turned down requests to be interviewed.

A recent graduate who had a baby during her freshman year told Time she knows why the girls wanted to get pregnant.

"They're so excited to finally have someone to love them unconditionally," Amanda Ireland, 18, said. "I try to explain it's hard to feel loved when an infant is screaming to be fed at 3 a.m." (© MMVIII, CBS Broadcasting Inc. All Rights Reserved.)

Meaning they wanted to give birth control to children without notifying parents, and were outraged (OUTRAGED!) that anyone would object to that.

Nevermind how outraged (I'VEGOTAGUN!!) I would be if some adult gave birth control to my little girls

Gee, you'd think they'd be proud, that they'd be clamoring for the cameras.

Never mind how angry the children have a right to be if born to such stupid and irresponsible parents who have no plan for the child’s life other than to raise them in squalor.

My least intelligent niece is pregnant at 18 years old. Apparently having a baby and living on welfare is the in thing.

Idiots.

Only 17? If only we had a Wayback Machine to crunch the numbers from Haverhill High circa 1960/61. (I know, my sister was one of ‘em)

If these girls made a pact to get pregnant, a contraceptive program wouldn’t help.

Oh, but if the girls knew they were to live in squalor instead of on the public dole,

they would likely choose differently.

And if the parents had to raise the little bastard kids and be financially responsible for them, perhaps they’d keep better track of their daughters’ behavior.

The human gene pool takes another hit.

$241,505 was given by people who identified their zip as "01930".

$61,865 from 56 people to Republicans

$179,640 from 200 people to Democrats

When I was in high school, we just had a school nurse (and it was a large high school at that).

The stupid girls wanted to get pregnant. Why would they take birth control EVEN if the idiot school could give them out?

I know someone who was outraged when he found out his 14 yr old daughter had been given the pill.

You do have a point but how did your sister live? Was she on the dole? who raised the child? the gub'mint or family?

Purely from my observations, the differences I see is that unwed (or young and unwed) and pregnant is no longer looked down upon. And the gub'mint has made an industry of financing the behavior.

Heck, I know three generations of "women" that never-worked but can sure reproduce on my dime and never got married and never sought support from the fathers.

Ahem…I believe that I’ve seen that picture before. Of course, it wasn’t “censored” with the Red Sox logo.
