To slow its production of pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles, the Toyota plant in Princeton, Ind., is letting employees decide if they will come to work on six days between now and August.

The company announced today that it would refrain from producing the Tundra pickup truck and Sequoia SUV at the Princeton plant on six days before the end of August. Both vehicles are made in the west side of Toyota's factory in Princeton.

The "nonproduction days" will affect about half of the 4,500 employees at the plant. The other half works in the east side of the factory, where the Sienna minivan is produced.

Six days of work stoppage at the Toyota plant in Indiana. First time in 11 years. By Toyota standards, the Tundra and Sequoia are gas guzzlers.

Of course he’d say that. If he was leasing manure wagons, he’d say his was the gold standard of manure wagons.

Now’s the time to get a sweetheart of a deal on pick.m.up trucks and sugar utility vehicles—before the oil bubble explodes.

Back in the day(about 1973)during the first "oil crisis", I worked in a Plywood plant. We used glue made from petroleum products to glue the veneer together. The price went so high that we had to "voluntarily" take every other Friday off in order to keep production within the amount we could actually sell.

Most of us didn't mind to much as it gave us a 3 day weekend every other week, but those of us just getting by from payday to payday hit a snag with it. Sometimes sh** happens and you have to bend with the wind.

BTW, this was a Union shop and the Union strongly urged us to go along with the plan. It worked out and we were back to work full time within a year.

I loved my Toyota truck back in college. I prefer something a little sturdier around the family now.

I can say this much about Toyota. When a Camry burns, the hazards and horn relay work real well. Here are some clips of one I ran across coming back to Columbia in my stock gallery. Those two sections held out until the very end. The car was empty when I came upon it. There were a few people already there and watching the show.

Some photos taken at the same time are here.
