One of Bill O'Reilly's early interviews was with Carlin. I believe they discussed the lack of language skills of inner-city yutes, how that might hurt them when looking for jobs later in life, and how entertainment may be contributing to their lack of communication skills.

I suppose O'Reilly will replay that interview tonight.

George Carlin was like some very bright friends of mine. He 'got it' in so many ways, yet never 'got it' on the things most important.

He made me laugh many times and made me cringe many times. I hope he 'got it' on the important things before he passed on.

One of the very few liberals I respect. No sacred cow avoided slaughter under his sharp wit. He turned the exasperatingly stupid into a laugh, and for this I thank him.

RIP, funnyman!

If you don’t have something nice to say about a dead guy, you shouldn’t say anything.....so I won’t.

What a cantankerous thread this has turned out to be.

You are all waiting for me to weigh in on this thread so here I go:

Carlin: funny, influential comedian who was among the first to popularize the "you ever notice..." type of humor that was later adopted by Seinfeld, Steven Wright and others. Probably not one of the best comedians ever, but certainly one of the best of his generation.

I saw Carlin live in the mid-70s when I was a teenager. I don't remember much about the performance other than I was taken aback at all of the adults laughing at his coarse language and subject matter. I was kind of sheltered.

There are a lot of people here who rag on Carlin because he wasn't as funny in his later years. Who among us is as good at his profession at the age of 70 than he was at the age of 30? Very few, I would imagine.

I'll never forget Carlin's skit on feminists, walking into NOW headquarters and saying....."Hey! Which one of you cupcakes will come home and cook me a nice meal and give me a (Lewinsky)". I didn't always agree with him, but more often than not, it was funny.

On a sad note, I see a bunch of Pharisees crapped on this thread. It is rather sickening to see. Just because you think he's going to Hell, you really didn't have to post that here. It seems like you're celebrating what you think is happening, and that is not a very Christian thing to do.
