Jason Chaffetz's promise to change Washington, starting with Rep. Chris Cannon, resonated with Republican voters, who appear to have ousted the six-term incumbent in a Republican primary tonight. "You rock, and you rocked the Republican Party," Chaffetz told supporters gathered in Springville, shortly after polls closed. "We've done this all with volunteers, with no free meals and no polling. We've done it the right way. You can never convince me that one person can't make a difference." With nearly three-quarters of precincts counted, Chaffetz led Cannon by more than 20 points. Chaffetz now advances to face Democrat Bennion Spencer in November. Results by the minute The seat strongly favors Republicans.

Cannon’s ACU rating is 96%. Not a good loss for our side.
Chaffetz is more conservative...his will be 100%.
Cannon was a nut, and IIRC, he had some scandal in his background.
Isn’t Cannon like McCain on immigration? If so, good riddance.
Whenever we can retain a seat, it is generally better to unseat an incumbent. These slobs have all been around too long. This is NOT what the Founders intended.
Cannon deserved to lose for his consistent pro-shamesty stance

Pro-illegals RINO Chris Cannon FIRED !
In your FACE, Dane !
(rolleyes)
:-)
More evidence of the “big split” in the GOP
Yep. A few years back during a televised debate, he was asked about illegal immigrants stealing and using social security numbers for work. His response was that the victims should be happy as they would get more earnings in their SS account.
As if that isn't bad enough, he, of course, failed to mention that the victim has no access to the money and may well get a "friendly" notice from the IRS about not paying enough tax on income earned.
That was the only upside to the election. In my area, the teachers union turned out and dumped two conservative legislators. In one case, the Republican nominee acknowledged that she had just changed party affiliation within the last few months and had voted for Obama in Utah's primary election. She's a nice lady but has strong socialist ideas. IOW, this November we get to choose between two Democrats.
I will either vote for the Democrat who, at least, has the guts to be honest or third party.
The part that stinks is that on the state legislative level our gun rights are, likely, going to be harmed and recently passed identity theft prevention measures (set to go into effect in 2009) will be gutted (it makes it harder to illegal immigrants to get jobs). I don't even want to talk about what will happen with taxes.
It’s a final; Chaffetz beats Cannon by 20% with 620 of 621 precincts reporting:
Cannon, Chris 40% 18,208
Chaffetz, Jason 60% 27,266

Impy and I were discussing this today so I thought I'd ping this old thread.
Chaffetz is a former RAT who was chief-of-staff to uber RINO Jon Huntsman. He came out in favor of a "path to citizenship" for illegals in 2013, just like the guy he had defeated. I just googled his lifetime ACU rating, and in 2013 it was 84%, making him to the LEFT of the guy he replaced.
Ouch! Looks like we all have to eat crow on this one (me included, I rejoiced when Chaffetz beat Cannon). Another "true conservative" who didn't live up to the hype and whose campaign promises meant nothing except helping him get elected.
