Chemical allegedly found in FBI-led search can cause muscle paralysis in humans

~~~~~
A Lake in the Hills man was charged Monday with possession of a powerful neurotoxin found in species of puffer fish and octopus after agents with the FBI-led counter-terrorism task force raided his home.
Edward Bachner, 35, was charged in a criminal complaint with one count of illegal possession of tetrodotoxin. He was arrested Monday and appeared briefly before U.S. Magistrate Judge P. Michael Mahoney in Rockford and was being held pending a detention hearing Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Tetrodotoxin is an extremely powerful neurotoxin that in humans causes swift muscle paralysis and possibly death. It is found in nature in species of puffer fish, toads and the blue-ringed octopus, all of which use the venom to disable prey.
In small doses, tetrodotoxin has been used for medical purposes to treat pain associated with migraines, cancer and heroin withdrawal.
The complaint alleged Bachner, using the alias Edmond Backer, attempted to place an Internet order of 98 milligrams of the toxin through a New Jersey chemical company. In the order he claimed to be a doctor doing research for "EB Strategic Research," a fictitious company, according to the complaint.
"An alert employee of the chemical supplier, whose suspicions were raised due to the large quantity of [tetrodotoxin] ordered, notified the FBI in New Jersey, who in turn contacted the Chicago office," the FBI said in a news release.
The 98 milligrams allegedly ordered by Bachner would be “about enough to kill 98 people” if injected, Zucker said.
But in a highly unusual move, prosecutors did not publicly release the entire criminal complaint filed in the case.
98 milligrams of TTX on the wall, take one 1 ml down and pass it around.
97 milligrams of TTX on the wall...
Very, very common mushroom. You don’t need to go to a pasture.
Just water your yard good and go out the next morning.
What could possibly be wrong with attempting to purshase a controlled neurotoxin under a false name and company? Also in the article a felony to posess without a license. Yes just what could be illegal about that?
