The Cold War between the United States and the former Soviet Union is still being fought, not by unrepentant, unreconstructed anti-communists such as your servant but by campus leftists born too late to be collaborators. “In last month’s undergraduate elections, a cadre of demagogues, in a disgusting publicity stunt, projected the image of a hammer and sickle onto one of Stanford’s most venerable landmarks: Hoover Tower,” Jason Dunkel, the business manager of the Stanford Review writes in a June 2008 fundraising letter. “Their platform called for the detainment of such ‘criminals’ as Donald Rumsfeld and Condoleezza Rice as well as the banning of ‘unfriendly corporations [from] campus unless they withdrawal [sic] their lobbyists’ from Washington.”
“They entitled their slate ‘Revolution!’” Unlike the Japanese on Iwo Jima who did not know that World War II had ended because they were hiding in caves on the island, these young firebrands cannot claim to have been in cavernous hideouts that made transmission of news difficult.
Nevertheless, the Palo Alto campus, like most college campuses, is one in which contact with The Real World is limited to turning on that MTV staple. The level of ignorance among students about the struggle that took up nearly half of the last century is astounding.

The Fox TV affiliate in Houston has captured images of a volunteer in a campaign office for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama working in front of a flag featuring the image of Che Guevara, the South American revolutionary who became Fidel Castro's executioner after the communist takeover in Cuba.
And while the Obama campaign has issued a statement placing a modest distance between the campaign and its "volunteers," the issue of such an image on display in an office operating on behalf of a man hoping to be commander in chief of the world's last remaining superpower is raising alarms.
Even Obama supporters have been forced into corners because of the issue, with one likening the Texas state Republican Party to Guevara, to whom have been attributed hundreds of executions of anti-Castro leaders.
Under the heading "Barack Guevara," Investor's Business Daily raised some of the more pointed questions, to which the campaign responded only with a statement: "The office featured in this video is funded by volunteers of the Barack Obama Campaign and is not an official headquarters for his campaign. ..."

Perhaps they or their staff have been reading FR in the past month or so. At least I'd like to think that was part of their reasoning to finally begin this discussion. Up to now, nearly all of them appeared afraid to use the 'C' word. Or, perhaps, it was because they simply didn't know enough about the movement to even want to go there. Or, they were being threatened not to go there.
