Uranium shipped to Montreal from Iraq in top secret mission
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation website ^ | Saturday, July 5, 2008 | Associated Press

Since it's AP I will provide the link and summarize the story myself.

Uranium shipped to Montreal from Iraq in top secret mission

550 tons of yellowcake, which is partly refined uranium ore, have arrived in Montreal from Iraq. The yellowcake will be consumed in electricity-generating nuclear reactors in southern Ontario. Canadian-designed nuclear reactors can use uranium that has not been enriched; this is different from the usual situation of light water reactors that use enriched uranium. According to the story, all 550 tons come from Saddam Hussein's nuclear program. They have been under close guard (ya think?) since 2003. This story has also been reported by in less detail by MSNBC (with an FR post here).

BTTT!

No wonder he was making jokes about looking for those WMDs. lol

Honestly, I thought they were moved to Syria before the Army got there. Knowing this makes me sleep better.

What’s next, he’ll pull Osama’s shrunken head out of his briefcase at a press conference and say “oh, yeah, been dragging this around for the last few years, thought you’d like to know...”

Actually the MSNBC story has more detail than the AP/CBC story. I just didn't see it the first time because a large advertisement made me think that their version was only a couple of paragraphs long. Mea culpa.

That’s a lot of uranium.

Too bad we couldn’t have used the spoils for our own energy needs and reactors.

Oh...wait, right...democrats don’t want us to use alternative nuclear energy.

“Oh...wait, right...democrats don’t want us to use alternative nuclear energy.”

True, but this has been kept hush by a Republican administration....one who apparently doesn’t mind being called a liar.

This doesn’t seem as significant as we might wish. The story isn’t explicit but it appears this is simply the stockpile of yellowcake gathered by Saddam before the 1991 war.

After the war the IAEA cataloged and tagged this material to prevent its further use. The Wilson mission was to see if Saddam was seeking supplemental material for nuke work “off the books”.

Unless this is new material, which seems unlikely, its just tardy cleanup of the battlefield. One less source of product for smugglers.

"democrats don’t want us to use alternative nuclear energy." Dem's don't want US to use energy period. However they are allowed to use copious amounts.

He probably can’t get the MSM to attend a press conference once they found out what he was gonna say.

If this is "true" (I don't trust the DBM) then Bush, the moderate has, as I suspected this all along kept things blacked out because he's smart enough to realize he doesn't want terrorist or others looking for it, and the traitorist DBM babbling about it all over creation!

For all we know they might been sitting on an underground football field bunker of WMD!

Honestly, I thought they were moved to Syria before the Army got there.

There were several tons of uranium moved from Iraq to Oak Ridge, TN, several years ago, in 2004, IIRC. I didn't see it on the national news, but it did make the local papers here.

gathered by Saddam before the 1991 war.

And of course he would abide by the agreement not to use it.

I think that was from Libya. When we invaded Iraq in part over their WMD program, Kadafi decided he didn't want a WMD program anymore and gave us his material voluntarily. That was a seldom mentioned benefit of the war in Iraq.

A large convoy of tractor trailer trust went to Syria during the Saddam-UN shell game (weapons inspections).
This shipment accounts for the yellowcake.
It does not account for all the other WMDs that have been unaccounted for back to the Impeached-Liar-Who-Sold-The-ChiComs-Missile-Guidance-Technology's term.

Does anyone know how many tons of yellowcake is needed for a nuclear weapon? How many weapons did we prevent Saddam from developing.

Once again I'm amazed by our brave troops for undertaking the mission to remove this dangerous material from a volatile region...

This mission alone has made the world safer.
