Britain's problem is deeper than just the gun ban. Although Britons have the same de jure right to use "proportional force" in self-defense, courts interpret this as the right to use one's fists only. Use of ANY weapon in self defense will heavier charges on the victim than on the criminal. In fact, the criminal will get invited over to George Monbiot's place for tea and crumpets while the victim rots in prison.
