If anyone could lay claim totheir state's Republican Party, it's Deborah Burstion-Donbraye of Cleveland. The 53-year-old international business consultant is the former outreach director for the Ohio Republican Party, for starters. She helped deliver the swing state to President Bush in his 2004 re-election bid in which he garnered 16 percent of the black vote.
Among her Republican credentials, Mrs. Burstion-Donbraye worked in several high-level positions during the Reagan and Bush administrations of the late 1980s and was the press secretary for George W. Bush's Texas gubernatorial campaign in 1994. In the 1980s, she was an assistant national desk editor and her now-deceased husband, Larry Wade, an editorial writer for The Washington Times.
During the 2008 primary season, Mrs. Burstion-Donbraye cast her conservative lot with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee. She staunchly opposes abortion.
"But there's been an 'Obama' sign on my lawn since Super Tuesday," she readily admits about her unusual support for the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Sen. Barack Obama.
"I went from a Huckababe to an Obamamama," she says.
Or you could call her an "Obamacan."
"What's an Obamacan? A Republican who can't afford health care insurance," she quips.
Mrs. Burstion-Donbraye can be counted among the growing number of high-profile black Republicans, including Gen. Colin L.Powell, commentator Armstrong Williams and former congressman J.C. Watts, who say they might not vote for the Republican candidate this fall.

Any Republican or selfdescribed Conservative, regardless of color, who considers voting for Obama is nothing but a liberal fraud.
Yeah, how staunchly?
BS! I'm almost 65, have had a triple-bypass, a stroke and a recent TIA. I'm still virtually blocked in my veins after all this as I have what the cardiologist calls cholesterol disease. I'm kept alive through medication.
I signed up in December for comprehensive medical, including medication for $62/month. No questions asked. I could have gotten it for $23/month if I didn't want the medication supplement. If I can do it this person can.
She sounds like an opportunist looking for a handout.
Wait until she sees her taxes go through the roof when Obama becomes king.
No true CONSERVATIVE Republican has any reason to be “conflicted” at all about whether to vote for Obama.
He is, at best, a National Socialist; at worst, a Marxist.
His philosophy, beliefs and even his thought-patterns run COMPLETELY counter to eveything conservatives stand for and Republicans at least CLAIM to stand for.
Why should they feel “conflicted”? Unless they are racists.
A true Republican would not be conflicted at all.
If they choose to put race ahead of logic, ahead of the damage he would do to this nation then they aren’t Republicans at all, they are are by definition racists as far as I’m concerned.
Indeed.. it must be strange watching the Honkyification of Borat Obama..
She's an OBAMORON ...
Not more of this trash!!
Maybe I’m too young to be racist, but I’d never vote for a candidate simply because he/she is the same race as me.
Sorry, but I’m allergic to low self esteem.
If you can’t afford health insurance, shop around for a better job that pays more of it. If you can’t get a better job, you’re either undereducated or not trying.
Apparently not as much as she staunchly regards race as the most important factor in this presidential campaign. Idiot.
Reminds me of a neighbor who wouldn’t give up her $80/month cable tv subscription so she could buy health care insurance. She thought “the guvmint” should pay for it.
Black Republicans that vote for Obama are "open minded".
White Democrats that vote for McCain are "racists".
Don’t find many Republican women with 3 names, usually only the democrat women.
I find it amazing how the media is able to find these Republicans who are choosing to vote for Obama. That's kind of like finding a needle in a haystack, so I'm always suspicious whether it's the typical "fake but accurate" reporting. You never see any stories about Democrats who will vote for McCain, regardless of race.
Once you go black, you never go back.
“Any Republican or selfdescribed Conservative, regardless of color, who considers voting for Obama is nothing but a liberal fraud.”
Especially one who claims to be anti-abortion.
