Ros-Lehtinen, opponent oppose gay-marriage ban

Both U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Miami, and her Democratic challenger, Annette Taddeo, have pledged to fight Florida's proposed constitutional ban on gay marriage.

Amendment 2 will be on Florida's ballot in November. If passed, it would amend the state constitution to ban gay marriages and civil unions, as well as publicly recognized domestic partnerships.

''Most [Amendment 2 supporters] would like to frame it as a gay issue,'' Ros-Lehtinen said Sunday at Miami Log Cabin Republicans club meeting. ``It's not that at all. Most of the domestic partnerships in Florida are heterosexual.''

Taddeo, the Democrat challenging Ros-Lehtinen in this fall's election, also strongly supports gay issues. She is an advisory board member of the Say No 2 campaign, a group fighting the marriage amendment.

''We must fight Amendment 2 because all people must be treated equally and we should not change our state's constitution to allow discrimination,'' Taddeo said Monday in an e-mail to The Miami Herald.

There is no discrimination. Straight and faggots alike are free to marry females.

I didn't know a man and a woman getting married made any one else feel left out! Liberals and RINOs are stuck on stupid!

DUMP HER SORRY ASS IN NOVEMBER!!!

And have another anti-USA Democrat in Congress?

Sorry... but when you have to choose between the lesser of 2 evils, choose the lesser evil.

If they stand for the same thing, I'd rather have the genuine article in Congress. I'm sick of RINOs who make common cause with the Democrats and spit on our values! I hope she's booted. Someone who won't stand up for marriage and tradition is NO Republican!

To be fair, Rep. Ros-Lehtinen also supports the Bush tax cuts, opposes the estate tax on the wealthy, supports drilling for oil in ANWR, supports making the Patriot Act permanent, voted in favor of the FISA changes, and voted against SCHIP.

If her Democrat opponent has these same positions, then she'd be worth dumping. While I don't like the fact that there are times when GOP candidates are not conservative enough, I would think the past 2 years with a Democrat congress have been far worse than any time with a GOP congress containing RINOs.

goldstategop: “I’m sick of RINOs who make common cause with the Democrats and spit on our values!”

Agreed. Yet, we keep electing them as the lesser of two evils. How in the world are we ever going to get more conservatism if we keep electing non-conservatives? C’mon all you FReepers who just keep buying one RINO after another. Please explain how we conservatives actually intend to start rolling back big government with a team of RINOs? Right...I’m already hearing the crickets.

Thanks, goldstategop. You and I are of like minds on this.

We have to take out the RINOs at primary time. We can't keep allowing them to sail through the primaries with no opposition or get the backing of the party apparatus as happened notably in Pennsylvania to Pat Toomey. Once they get through the primaries, where we're stuck with them just as we are stuck now with Juan McInsane.

I have even advocated taking a loss to get rid of a RINO with the sole intention of running a strong conservative the next time around. I know people don't like that and I'm not all that fond of it myself, but sometimes there seems no other way to be rid of them. The damage the RINOs do is immense and infuriating.

Dahoser: “The damage the RINOs do is immense and infuriating.”

Needs repeating!

Incumbent RINOs prevent conservatives from even getting the chance to run in the general elections. I know. I know. Conservatives are supposed to win primaries. Well, that’s not realistic to any large degree.

Incumbent RINOs typically have huge advantages over their conservative opponents: name recognition, RNC support, campaign dollars, etc. We aren’t going to beat them by reelecting them. As incumbents, that only strengthens their hand in the next election. I’d rather our RINO sellouts went down to defeat so we could open these races to new blood on our side. We might very well have better odds against a first-term Democrat than a multi-term RINO who pulls out all the stops to hold his office in perpetuity.

Boy, you can’t say that loud enough for me. Ohio is a good example-Grinning idiot Bob “tax” anti-gun, anti-smoker,Taft and his associates (Petro, Sweaty Betty Montgomery, etc; have literally destroyed the party here for a few decades, thanks to the fact they were the most liberal administration (and the worst) this state has ever had. Our house and senate passed a law doing away with the revenue-enhancing red-light cameras-the lame-duck Taft vetoed it. They passed a bill expanding the concealed-carry (which Taft had fought for years), a lame-duck Taft vetoed it. He got taxes raised more than any governoe ever had, and openly campaigned, and did commercials for, the statewide smoker ban with only a few weeks left in office. Had he resigned after his scandal, and turned the reins over to the only real conservative in the administration (Blackwell), they could have kept the governorship. But, being the arrogant sob he was, he refused. That was the kiss of death here, as every dem running for a statewide position used Taft and his scandals non-stop in their commercials, and it worked. That is what you get-and deserve-when you support RHINOS. I was happy that DeWanker lost, not because a Dem got the spot, but because he was finally gone. If I’m going to have a liberal, I’d rather have a democRAT, at least I know they’re going to screw me.
