Chuck Lasker, a political blogger and Internet consultant in Indiana, hosted a gathering last week of 20 people he calls "whispering Republicans" - party members like him who support Senator Barack Obama, a Democrat, for president. Over iced tea and brownies, the renegades took turns explaining why they liked Mr. Obama and recalling the strange stares from other Republicans.
In recent weeks, Obama aides have met with Republican leaders in crucial states to strategize about wooing undecided voters.
...
Mr. Obama is hardly a perfect candidate for Republicans. ...
And the idea of a Barack Obama-Nancy Pelosi-Harry Reid triumvirate, should Democrats still control Congress after the election, is anathema to many Republicans, as well as to independents who believe in the virtue of two-party government. No Republican member of Congress has endorsed Mr. Obama.

What "Republican leaders" are meeting with Obama aides?!
There are plenty of real Republicans who don’t like McCain and probably won’t vote for him.
I seriously doubt there are many real Republicans that will be voting for Barack Obama.
“Over iced tea and brownies, the renegades took turns explaining why they liked Mr. Obama and recalling the strange stares from other Republicans.”
If Obama is yer cup of tea, you may have been a Republican but you were NEVER a conservative.
The New York Times is getting desperate in their attempts to show Obama as some sort of "inevitable" President.
The fools forget that many Americans see Obama for the racist scumbag that he is.
The recent Ludicris story is a perfect example of which I speak.
Many Americans are also on board Sean Hannity's "Stop Obama Express." We share the knowledge of Obama's friendships with terrorists, racists and criminals like Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, Tony Rezko and many other nasty people.
I am aware, and I am not afraid of anyone when it comes to seeking the truth about Barack Hussein Obama.
I’ll bet there are more “PUMAs” than whispering Republicans...
Like McCain had a real nasty race a la Obama & Clinton. NYT should be used exclusively for bird cages and maybe fish & chips, but sure as hell not for information.
Chuck Lasker’s personal website identifies him thusly: “B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering, libertarian, and more.”
So he apparently is not a Republican.
Why a libertarian would vote for Obama, I don’t know, unless he is very upset about the war. Obama will not get government out of our business. McCain will at least work to keep government out of our pockets.
I seriously doubt there are many real Republicans that will be voting for Barack Obama.
What's the difference?
Not voting for McPain is the same as voting for Obama!
Get a clue! Sheesh! Voting is not a statement of principle. It's an act of (thoroughly diluted) political expediency. Get over it!
Did the NY Slimes hire Jayson Blair back and rename him?
What utter BS this is.
ANYONE who would vote for a Marxist with a Muslim sounding name IS NOT a Republican and never has been a Republican. They are just people who are ashamed to tell anyone that they are Marxists.
What was in those brownies?
Ugh. That's a three headed Hydra that would give even Herc a run for his money.
I may be a center left Republican and I honestly dont like Obama. Obama does not believe in American exceptionalism and mentions the stuff he doesnt like about America more than what he likes about our nation.
Obama would be more for five or six dollar gasoline, and Obama would rather sing Kumbya with dictators than to negotiate with pre-conditions.
I may not like Republican social conservatism, but I will hold my nose a third time and vote for McCain.
90% of votes aren’t open to switching sides and voting for the other party, I doubt anything changed about that.
“The New York Times is getting desperate in their attempts to show Obama as some sort of “inevitable” President.”
Desperate is an understatement. This fabricated piece of trash passing for “journalism” is shameful and deserves NO attention whatsoever.

Overreact much?
Nowhere in my post did I state that I am not voting for McCain. I agree that not voting for him will effectively be giving a vote to Obama.
That is still different than voting FOR Obama. If a person doesn’t like McCain, he can vote for Bob Barr, or stay home. He doesn’t have to vote Obama, and I doubt many real Republicans will.
The recent Ludicris story is a perfect example of which I speak.”
Yes, another glowing endorsement to add to BHO’s collection. Oh and wait - did you hear the even more recent one? Phil Specter.
I’m not kidding - Rush broke that one today.
