July 25, 2008 - At Sea, USS Bonhomme Richard

The Red Devils were training alongside the U.S. Marines and are very proud to be referred to as Canadian Marines by the U.S. Marines.
The Canadian Army sent a company of soldiers from Edmonton to RIMPAC to further their training for non-combatant evacuation operations (NEO).
In a Canadian context, a non-combatant evacuation operation is a military operation conducted to assist the Government of Canada in evacuating Canadians and other designated persons from a dangerous situation in a foreign nation and moving them to safety.
This is the first time that the Canadian Army has participated in RIMPAC, the world's largest maritime exercise.
RIMPAC is a multi-national exercise designed to prepare forces to work together on a wide range of potential operations and missions. RIMPAC is part of a series of exercises the Canadian Forces uses to prepare for multi-national operations. Canada has participated in every RIMPAC exercise since the first in 1971. This year's exercise will involve ten nations, 35 ships, six submarines, over 150 aircraft and 20,000 sailors, airmen, marines, soldiers and coast guard personnel. Forces from Australia, Canada, Chile, Japan, the Netherlands, Peru, Republic of Korea, Singapore, United Kingdom and the United States are scheduled to participate.

This gave me the kick to actually look up what the name means. "Poor Richard's Almanac", I didn't see that coming.
Granted, but all in good fun (as long as it is the Sea Services doing the dissing) You Nuke or Diesel? I had some good times in Yokosuka with the Archerfish in 61 while on her ‘world tour’, just prior me going to Groton to learn how to ‘swim with the fishes’.
This is my belief: What goes up must come down, but what goes down doesn’t necessarily have to come back up.
That being said, I joined the Navy (back in 78) so that I would have tons of steel around me protecting me from the bullets.
I didn’t expect 98,000 tons of steel (and diplomacy).
When offered submarine service I told the recruiter that I didn’t want to be on a boat that was built to sink and does it on a regular basis. (I also turned down the nuke program.)

This unit is from the Canadian Scottish regimental system with the PPRCLI being the only active duty Scottish Regiment, augmented by Canadian Scottish Regiments distributed across Canada ( Vancouver and Montreal etc. Seaforths and Black Watch).
