The DNCC announced the speakers for the prime-time slot on Wednesday night of the convention, and the list is intriguing. Wednesday night is when the VP nominee addresses the convention, and CNN scrutinizes the list for a hint on Barack Obamas choice Former president Bill Clinton will address the delegates, as will Harry Reid, Ken Salazar, and Jay Rockefeller. Alexander Mooney focuses on two other speakers, but misses an obvious third choice:
The two senators widely believed to be at the top of Barack Obamas shortlist for VP have been given prime-time speaking slots at the Democratic convention Wednesday night the very same night the vice presidential candidate is slated to speak.According to the Democratic National Convention Committee, both Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh and Delaware Sen. Joe Biden will deliver speeches on national security during the marquee night the same evening former President Bill Clinton is also scheduled to speak.
Evan Bayh makes some sense as a choice, although hes not a very inspired candidate. Bayh has executive experience and time in Washington as a governor and Senator, respectively. He can help swing Indiana, a state the Republicans would dearly like to hold in November, and he can speak to the working-class voters that Obama has mostly lost over the last five months. Unfortunately, Bayhs also an underachiever on the national stage; hes supposedly been a presidential prospect for the last three cycles and has never achieved any lift at all.
Joe Biden has to be someones idea of a joke. If anyone represents inside-the-Beltway politics, its Biden. Biden, with his hairplugs and history of plagiarism, has a well-established reputation as a phony, and his grinning performances through judicial confirmation hearings showed him easily outclassed in debates. He can carry Delaware, but if Obamas worried about Delaware, then hes already lost the election.
Mooney misses one name which may be better than either Bayh or Biden, and thats Bill Richardson. Unlike either Bay or Biden, Richardson has actually campaigned as a high-profile surrogate for Obama. He burned a few bridges with the Clintons by endorsing Obama early in the primary cycle. Like Bayh, Richardson has both executive and Congressional experience, but more importantly, he has solid foreign-policy experience and as this week proved, Obama needs someone to rescue him on that front.
Obamas choice may not even yet be on the list. However, if he is on the Wednesday night agenda, its Richardson, and not Bayh or Biden.
Bill Clinton should be his pick. No politician in American history his more experience with vice.
Is Biden the one with the hairplugs or is he the one who’s the plagerist?
Richardson! Yuck!
Both.
Heh, heh. Yes.
Evan Bayh would make the perfect airhead VP. Essentially there wouldn’t be any brain in the office but Obama’s. Makes perfect sense for an arrogant arse. No room for any other thoughts in a one way leftist universe.
Biden is the pluggerist.
Evan Bayh as the pick would certainly help the ticket with white rust-belt Democrats. It’s about the best Barry O can do.
Doesn’t matter who he picks, it’s gonna hurt him.. because it’s gonna be a Lib thus we can parade out his/her radical beliefs, statements, votes, etc, etc.
I’m rooting for Harry Reid. Two do-nothing senators on a ticket is a sure winner!
Is Biden the one with the hairplugs or is he the one whos the plagerist?
both.
Richardson... That’ll surely get him the red-neck white vote he so dearly needs.
“Richardson... Thatll surely get him the red-neck white vote he so dearly needs.”
Is America really ready for the first goateed Vice President?
They’re all wrong. I say it’s going to be Wes Clark.
What was proven this week is that Richardson is an idiot. His recommended course of action, taking the Georgian invasion to the UN Security Council (Richardson was Clinton's UN Ambassador where is major memorable action was getting Monica Lewinsky a job out of Washington while Clinton and his minions were trying to cover up his actions.), was useless given that the Russians have a veto over any UNSC action.
Doesn't Richardson have a zipper problem? Kaine has a hair problem in that he looks like Dilbert's pointy-haired boss.
Richardson can claim to be Hispanic, but I doubt that most Hispanic Americans are going to be very impressed. There will be some, however.
It’s unfortunate that real American blacks are fooled by Barry’s claim to be one of them, because he’s not a real “African American,” as now defined by that term, in any way, shape or form.
In any case, Barry’s doing badly among Hispanics, so the pick probably will be Richardson. Hope the Hispanic Americans are smarter than the African Americans and don’t fall for it.
