Russia wants to send naval fleet to Venezuela: Chavez

CARACAS: President Hugo Chavez said on Sunday that Russian President Dimitri Medvedev wants to send a Russian naval fleet to visit Venezuela.

"Russia has informed us they intend to visit Venezuela, that is, the intention that a Russian fleet should come to the Caribbean," Chavez said on his weekly radio program.

"I told the president (Medvedev), 'If you're coming to the Caribbean, we'll welcome you,'" Chavez said, adding that the Russian naval fleet would pay "a friendly and working" visit to Venezuela.

Under leftist President Chavez, Venezuela has been seeking closer relations with Moscow, in part to buy military hardware, including 24 Russian Sukhoi fighter jets recently delivered, after Washington refused to supply spare parts for the F-16 jets it sold Venezuela in the 1980s.

Over the past few years, Venezuela and Russia have signed 4.0 billion dollars' worth of arms deals, including AK-47 automatic rifles and military helicopters.

"We very much need them here," Chavez said of the Russian weapons. "We've got the helicopters, the Sukoi fighters and we're now considering buying some Russian submarines to patrol our territorial waters," Chavez said.

Chavez on Sunday also repeated his support for Moscow in its conflict over Georgia's separatist territory of South Ossetia, and called Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili "a puppet of the United States."

Big deal. The Russian ships will rust faster in the warm waters of the Caribbean.

And when (gack) President Osama gets his call at 0300 advising him that a Soviet..I mean Russian carrier battle group has dropped anchor off of Caracas, he’ll tell the Watch Officer that, “uh, er, um, that’s uh like above uh, er, ah my pay grade.” Same reaction when the Soviet...I mean Russian bombers have landed in Cuber, or when the Chicom Submarines have left their berths carrying missiles capable of striking anywhere in CONUS.

Watching the Russian surface vessels taking turns towing eachother across the Atlantic might be fun to watch (and photograph).

We have the best equiped and best trained military personal on Earth. From stories I’ve read about the underwater battles during the cold war, the Russians had no chance what-so-ever to do anything in secret.

The Russians have only one small carrier and you can count with one hand how many times it has gone out to sea. I’m not saying to underestimate them, but please.

Chavez is looking for a boost and Russia is looking for a bargaining chip that they can use over Georgia! Chavez is the useful IDIOT that the Russians will use any way they can. It does not hurt that Hugo is STUPID enough to act for them.....(and Castro, Inc.)

PS: Good News...The US is using 800,000 less bpd of imported oil per day. If we can save another 500,000 bpd we can tell Hugo to kiss our a$$.

That is if they don’t have to call for a tow boat to haul the tow boat.

They better not even dream getting close to the Panama Canal. We, the Americans, will blow their commy asses right out of the water.

Trust me.

Jimmy Carter gave our canal away, but the U.S. has not lost interest in the P.C.

Fact:

We will blow them away. No one, and I mean no one, messes with the Panama Canal even though it now belongs to Panama.

Actually, I think having the Russian fleet make the entire visit under wave after wave of simulated attacks by U.S. shore, surface, and subsurface strike units would be kind of enlightening to the Russians.

And good practice for us.

Hey...The Rooskies invaded Georgia with the excuse that they are stopping a genocide. We all know they did this to reassert their place in that hemisphere and to show they want to be a superpower again.

If we were to take Cuba, 90 miles off our coast, and reassert that the US is the big boss, what will Russia do about it? I guess the biggest complaint would come from the DNC.

LOL! I my mind I see a huge line of ships connected to each other by cables with some poor guy in a row boat at the front!

That actually happened to me when I was in the Navy. A Soviet missile cruiser we were tailing in the Sea of Japan decided to show us how fast it was. It was gas turbine powered and as it took off the turbines failed!! We signaled them to see if they wanted a tow from a 25 year old WWII U.S. Navy destroyer.
