Russian TV Sounds Like Soviet TV
aim.org ^ | August 19, 2008 | Cliff Kincaid

Denunciations of U.S. ‘imperialism,” which were a regular staple of Soviet TV, are back on the Russian version.

...recent guests on Russia Today have included Alexander Cockburn, “an American political journalist,” and Justin Raimondo, said to be “a top U.S. author.” Cockburn denounced John McCain as a warmonger, while Raimondo warned the Russians to investigate what’s on those humanitarian flights to Georgia. “I would check that out, if I were you,” he was quoted by Russia Today as saying.

The Russian channel declared, “‘Say No to War’ has been Justin Raimondo’s slogan for over a decade―from the U.S. intervention in Bosnia to the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now he has denounced U.S. support for Georgia.”

In reality, Cockburn is a leftist who writes for The Nation and other publications. Raimondo was described by Russia Today as “a top U.S. author,” in order to give him a measure of credibility, but his main claim to fame is running a website, antiwar.com, that describes itself as opposed to imperialism.

This apparently doesn’t mean opposition to Russian imperialism.

The Russian invasion of Georgia has made it clear beyond doubt that the old Soviet KGB disinformation operations have been revived, using Americans as puppets to make Russian points. But the propaganda is being distributed on a worldwide basis, even on U.S. cable networks. ...

A May 8 New York Times article on Russia Today and its increasing availability in U.S. media markets noted that “The station is part of the state-owned news conglomerate RIA Novosti, and news organizations routinely refer to it as ‘state-run,’ including The New York Times, which has said it was created to promote ‘pro-Kremlin views.’”

Our old pal Justine, still soaking up praise from all the wrong places. The day he got the boot was one of FR’s high points.

Sadly, we also have some FReepers who are big fans of Justin Raimondo.

Thereby exposing Raimondo completely.

Justin is NOT "antiwar." He is very clearly pro-war as long as it was initiated by the Russian neo-Stalinists.

Justin remains the only poster here I've ever demanded be banned. It was on the afternoon on 9/11/01, when he was clearly delighted and was cheerfully talking about how the chickens were coming home to roost and we had it coming.

Total scumbag. A piece of offal. Something you scrape off your shoe.

I don't remember the noxious Raimondo being one of those guys on 9/11. I DO remember Michael Rivero immediately suggesting that the Twin Towers were a modern version of the Reichstag fire that Hitler road to power. By noontime PT, Rivero was a goner, and he's been drinking the Alex Jones-town Kool-Aid by the gallon ever since.

The wanted to ask Keith Olbermann, but he is too “kooky”. He would probably start ranting about Bush and UFOs and the invisible lizards sent by Karl Rove that want to eat his brain.

Pravda has to protect its reputation, you know.

Olbermann would make them look like the Weekly World News.

Russia Today is just a mouthpiece of the Kremlin. Putin has crushed any free press in Russian many years ago.

Change the channel. You accidentally watched the network news in America.

Try channel 360 on Directv.

TASS, Pravda, NBC, ABC, CBS what’s the difference?

Alternative ideas always get through. The political prisoners in Siberia had radio waves, the brainwashed voters in America have internet and talk radio.

“Russia has the Truthers on their side.”

Yes, they absolutely do. On another site I post to, there is a hard core that you’d swear were Russian moles. I’m not kidding, it really makes me wonder, because no one’s bladder can hold that much Kool-Aid long enough to write the nonsense they spew.

I remember Rivero's insane rantings that day, but they bothered me less than what Raimondo was saying. To me, Rivero was just processing the events of the day in his own way, his own insane way, and I remember thinking that at least he was upset about it. Raimondo was...joyful.

It's all academic because they were both banned in short order, but I've never despised another person in cyberspace as much as Justin that one afternoon.

Just for the record, the Kremlin funds and controls TV network “Russia Today”, via The Moscow State Institute of International Relations.

The Kremlin also funds the Institute for Democracy and Cooperation, with offices in Paris and NYC.

About the time the first Russian tanks - and Chechen mercenaries-began entering South Ossetia,Russia Today was broadcasting propaganda about atrocities, and feeding stories to the European-American Unity and Rights Organization- a David Dukes/Preston Wigington sponsored entity; and US Neo-Nazis were braying about “Jewish Mercenaries” committing genocide in S. Ossetia, capturing Christians to use as sex slaves,etc.,etc.

I had noticed a peculiarly “Russian” flavor to some of the Neo-Nazi statements in the past, but this was one of the clearest indications I’ve ever seen of a link between the Neo-Nazi movement and the Russian FSB.

I was not surprised to learn-a few days later- Dukes maintains an expensive apartment in Moscow, that is frequently used by Wiginton: a heavy contributor to European Neo-Nazi organizations and causes.

Cockburn's father, Claud, was a KGB agent while playing a journalist in America.

Alex Cockburn is the spawn of Claude an infamous British communist. Some details at this communist site.

On another site I post to, there is a hard core that you’d swear
were Russian moles.

Well, given how Putin has hog-tied the media in Russia and conducted
a very good media story about how the Russians were fighting back
against the EVIL Georgians...no suprise if Putin and Co. has dispatched
a cadre to push the Russian story on the web.
And they are probably all competing to get a Pulitzer Prize like
Walter Duranty.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Duranty

IIRC, there was a story about Russia putatively shutting down a bunch
of Georgian websites at the outset of the Russian invasion.
These guys learned their stuff during the good old days at the KGB
and are now out to make Uncle Joe Stalin in H-LL smile at their handiwork.

A good article about the Russian out-source some of their dirty work:

DEVIL SENT DOWN TO GEORGIA - RUSSIA UNLEASHES CHECHEN THUGS

PS: The author discussing the story on Glen Becks show on
CNN-Headline News; will rebroadcast tonight at 11PM CENTRAL Time.
Peters appears at about 15 minutes into the show.
