So the game goes up a bit.

I wonder what scares them so much about the missile shield. Star Wars freaked the Soviets out, and now the Russians.

Either we are much better then reports indicate, or the Russian assets are much worse, or both.

We need to be very careful. We are a few minutes from nuclear midnight, and the clock is running fast.

God help us.

I don’t.

Obama isn’t deceiving anyone. Look at his poll numbers.

I don’t even think he’s going to be the party’s nominee.

My bride is pregnant with our first. I always believed my children would not grow up in a world like I did. A place where nuclear midnight was only a few seconds away, and we all knew if you saw the Minutemen and bombers flying, you were dead.

I grew up just out side of Omaha, the most targeted place on earth. We had a few “duck and cover” drills, but the CD guys all said we would die in the initial attacks.

I really hope that Pres. Bush and NATO know what they are doing.

I agree.

Nuclear War could be close to happening.. if a few other things fall into place.

Weren’t there any offensive missiles in Western Europe during the Cold War. Your point is nonsense.

They do this for public as well as private reasons, and by keeping their people riled up against some foreign aggressor, they are much better positioned to take away rights and liberties necessary to maintain political control.

Hmmm. I wonder if that works anywhere else?

It is very close.

If we get in a shooting war, it will go nuclear. For we will have to push into the interior of the Eurasian continent, and Russia will nuke us all to hell before they fight another war on their soil.

(snip)

“Russian overdependence on food imports is not just an economic concern. It has a political dimension as well — and that worries many Russian politicians.

Russia’s eastern region is literally fed by China. More than 80 percent of all foodstuffs available in that vast territory are Chinese imports. With such economic reliance on China, Moscow’s politicians fear that they may eventually lose some control over their eastern territories.

Russia has little agricultural capacity: less than half of its arable land is farmed and cultivated, and the yield remains poor. Nearly 80 years of communism killed the traditional family farm and today there are very few Russians interested in becoming farmers, especially since laws on land ownership are vague and arbitrary.

The irony is that Russia’s huge profit from oil and gas exports has dealt another blow to its agriculture — the state has had plenty of cash to afford massive food imports and so has neglected local farming.”

The U.S. is not going to invade Russia. Period.

What is more apt to happen is a conflict as a result of a mishap such as if the U.S. or NATO has an aircraft damaged as a result of an airlift operation, etc. If that happens, events could escalate on the ground.

Another thing really drives me nuts: why doesn’t someone call the Rooskies on the idiotic concept that a defensive missle shield is somehow an offensive act calling for “a response beyond diplomacy”?

My guess on this is that the Russians believe that a missile defense system reduces the political efficacy/clout that derives from their inventory of nuclear weapons. These weapons are basically a poker chip that Russia believes allows them to project power and influence.

I keep telling people it WILL NOT BE nuclear. This will be a war over land and resources. It will do the Russians no good to get the planet irradiated. Neither will we use nukes. The nutjobs in the Middle East won’t either because their handlers in the Kremlin won’t let them. Just like we won’t let Israel. You might see small battlefield nukes used but not the big bad boys everyone thinks will fly on WW3. The above applies to Bio/Chem warfare too. I do see the largest conventional war ever fought if WW3 breaks out.

My point is NOT nonsense. This is 2008, not 1985. In ‘85, there were offensive missiles all over Europe, starting with the eastern bloc countries.

We are now talking about putting defensive-only missiles - with insufficient range to reach Russia - into Poland. The only ones threatened by that are AGGRESSORS.

Russia is welcome, IMHO, to put SA-11s into Cuba. They are not welcome to invade Poland because Poland has weapons that are completely DEFENSIVE in nature.
