A day after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger told lawmakers to skip their national party conventions in the next two weeks if they do not pass a budget, the Republican National Convention announced that the GOP governor will have a prime speaking role on the first night of the St. Paul event.

Schwarzenegger is slated to speak on Monday, Sept. 1 at the convention, the same night as President Bush, First Lady Laura Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. Also scheduled that day is Sen. Joseph Lieberman, a Democrat turned independent who has endorsed McCain.

After meeting with lawmakers Tuesday, the Republican governor said, "I told the legislative leaders that it's extremely important not to leave before we have a budget done."

The governor, who backed McCain right before the California primary, had threatened not to attend his own convention if the state lacks a budget.

He can call himself an economic girlie-man now. He’s earned that title.

Thank God Arnold is constitutionally unqualified to be president. Or he would probably be the VP pick. RINOs leading RINOS.

A liberal Democrat at the GOP convention! Just what the hell is the RNC thinking? Red Arnold is NO Republican and definitely NO conservative!

In fairness, Arnie is married to a tree hugging lefty in Maria. It’s unsettling that he became HER tool, instead of converting her.

Does Arnold know that Hillary is going to speak too? Her speech:
“Bill and I are here to nominate my VP as Mayor Bloomberg. Hillary Clinton /Bloomberg 2008!”

News tonight said that he won’t speak if there is no budget agreement and challenged the Dems to not go to theirs either without a deal.

There shouldn't be one. No budget is better than a bad budget. A massive tax increase on Californians is neither sound policy nor good politics.
