The Pakistani Taleban have "the upper hand" and should be put on the list of banned organisations in Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto's widower, Asif Ali Zardari, has said.

He says the world and Pakistan are losing the war on terror.

"It is an insurgency", he said, "and an ideological war. It is our country and we will defend it.

"The world is losing the war. I think at the moment they (the Taleban) definitely have the upper hand.

"The issue, which is not just a bad case scenario as far as Pakistan is concerned or as Afghanistan is concerned but it is going to be spreading further. The whole world is going to be affected by it."

That is because Pakistan did not do what they needed to do in stamping out the Taleban. I think Afghanistan is holding its own. The problem is the Taleban camps are located in Pakistan.

It is our country and we will defend it.

I'm glad he's putting it in these terms. Pakistanis might have considered Musharrf tainted by his connection to the US so anything he would do to combat the Taliban was suspect. Now if the fight is considered to be their defense of their country, some positive things may happen.

Translation: “Asif Ali Zardari says Asif Ali Zardari’s new government is going to need billions of US dollars from Us taxpayers so that Asif Ali Zardari can skim his 10% so that Asif Ali Zardari can continue to maintain his extravagant lifestyle while Asif Ali Zardari buys off enough Taleban to keep the suckers in the US Congress to continue the US taxpayer dollars flowing into Asif Ali Zardari’s bank accounts.”

From the article;”He also dismissed reports that the Swiss authorities were still considering whether they should pursue a money-laundering case against him there. “

That's 10% of 1.5 billion $/yr...thanks to Joe Biden.

“The whole world is going to be affected by it.”

DUH!! Where have you been, buddy, the past 20 years?

I agree with others on this site that Asif Ali Zardari wants his palm covered with gold or silver before doing anything to rid Pakistan of foreign agressors or the Taliban.

Rather disappointing to hear this. The Taliban has only won the war if you let them win the war. And they aren't that hard to beat. They're a bunch of cavemen in turbans with Kalashnikovs. Pakistan is screwed even more if this guy takes over.
