Funny. I’m in the middle of an extended email chat with my German friend from SF who always insists that Germans are much more civilized than Americans, have better food, manners, everything.
I rather like how arrogant and spunky she is — we’ve had lots of fun, though every time we get together she insults me right off the bat and I have to remind her that she cannot talk to me that way. She looks surprised, apologizes, and we go on to have a great time.
A Hillary supporter, she’s not going to vote for Obama — nor for McCain.

The group were due to take a sightseeing trip around San Francisco, but one delegate, Annette Widmann-Mauz, 42, had broken her foot. When Mr Schütte provided her with a wheelchair, the Christian Democrat MP complained that it was “a chair for the sick with small wheels, the kind you see in old US movies”.
Concerned that she would not be able to move the chair, her colleague, Randolph Krüger, a Social Democrat from Potsdam, reportedly said: “We need a negro who can push the wheelchair.”
Whatever. So they came and acted like a bunch of conventioneers in Las Vegas. In San Francisco how can anyone embarass themselves? That city doesn’t have any shame, as evidenced by their mayor and those so-called gay pride parades.

Asked about the racist comment by Der Spiegel, Krüger merely said he “wouldn’t rule out that I said that. If they produce such a fabulous contraption then they should have at least helped out.”
