The GOP smear machine revs up (Boston Globe Alert)
Boston Globe ^ | 8/28/08 | Dan Payne

Posted on 08/28/2008 9:48:17 AM PDT by pissant

BARACK OBAMA can deliver a brilliant speech tonight, but its impact could evaporate within days. John McCain and his allies have opened the 2008 Swift Boating season. Four years ago, a smear outfit called Swift Boat Veterans for Truth began trashing John Kerry's Vietnam War record. Kerry was never the same.

Helter Skelter. What the GOP does is throw out so many attacks that the target and voters get confused and disoriented. This all-out Helter Skelter Republican attack machine is something Obama has never experienced.

It always starts small. A small lie. First, they say he's like Paris Hilton. Then he's why gas prices are high. Then he'll raise taxes on the middle class (Funny how powerful Obama is for a man who lacks experience.)

The escalation. McCain's part of the attack machine quickly ginned up a TV spot showing newly minted VP candidate Joe Biden at an early debate saying Obama wasn't ready to be president. Next they found video clips of Hillary Clinton criticizing Obama - imagine, one Democrat knocking another in the middle of a heated primary! Such things never happen to Republicans.

McCain vs. the Pig. During the Republican primary, John McCain and Mitt Romney tangled over immigration. McCain said this about Romney: "Never get into a wrestling match with a pig. You both get dirty and the pig likes it."

The book of lies. Four years ago his book smeared John Kerry's war service. Now Jerome Corsi has a book out on Obama, published by none other than Mary Matalin, longtime hit-woman for the attack machine for the Bushes and Dick Cheney.

Who wants a President who can be confused and disoriented by people discussing his political positions? IF a guy can't respond to a few smears at once, he clearly isn't the man we want running the Country.

Yes this is sweet, I think even better than when we routed Kerry...we have so much more to work with with the “annointed one”—never thought that was possible after Kerry, but good things DO come to those who wait :)

But, isn't it incredibly sad what the MSM has become? An arm of the DNC - its propaganda unit. Our media is supposed to be better than this and it seems that daily they sink to new lows.

It’s funny how much I hear about the GOP/ Republican “attack” or “smear” machine, yet I never seem to come across any articles detailing Democrat attacks or smears.

Why can't we be more like the liberals, who never have a bad word to say about Chimpy McCokespoon Bushitler and his mass murdering cadre of Nazi, draft-dodging, racist, aids-inventing, terror goons?

The way to counteract smears and lies is with the truth. However Kerry couldn't do it and Obama will not be able to either.

They must hide behind carefully created (concocted) images or the nation and the world would know for sure ... they are frauds and liars.

You know what’s funny about this piece? There probably isn’t anyone on staff at The Globe who would cross the street to say “hello” to John Kerry.

A former president of the MA state senate, Billy Bulger, once told a St. Patrick’s Day crowd at Dorgan’s in South Boston, that Kerry’s initials really stood for “Just For Kerry”.

Why they keep electing this nimrod is quite a mystery.

As for Mr. Obama, it’s simple to criticize him. What has he done that qualifies him for the presidency? Answer: Nothing.

The Democrats are just beginning to feel “buyer’s remorse” with regard to Mr. Obama.

After all, what does one say about a candidate who hasn’t done anything? And what does one say about a VP nominee(Mr. Biden) who lies and steals other peoples’ writings?

This ticket is already in a world of trouble...and so it should be.

” A small lie,”

That’s the most discpicable part - Accusing the Swifties of lying.

If the drivebys and the Barry campaign try to go after McCain’s military service, I hope every former POW opens a can of whoop-a** on Barry!

Dan Payne is a Democrat Party hack whom the Globe recycles every four years for this kind of inane “commentary” on the presidential race. Other than what the Globe gives him, he has zero visibility, credibility, or stature. More than anything, Payne’s presence is a commentary on the Globe’s utter lack of originality and sensible judgment in the selection of its op-ed contributors (the Globe’s “answer” to Payne, GOP operative Todd Domke is no better).

BARACK OBAMA can deliver a brilliant speech tonight, but its impact could evaporate within days.

Because he isn't actually saying anything?

That's like saying I could eat a brilliant meal tonight, and still be hungry tomorrow.

This all-out Helter Skelter Republican attack machine is something Obama has never experienced.

No, he's never experienced any attacks directed at him, but he used his own attack machine in his 2004 run for the U. S. Senate against Jack Ryan. Obama's henchmen managed to get Ryan's ugly divorce records unsealed, dooming Ryan's run.
