The Culture Wars Continue [Rave Review From Canada]
National Post ^ | 08/30/08 | Father Raymond J. De Souza

Posted on 08/30/2008 4:19:36 AM PDT by BunnySlippers

Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska is not your typical governor. And she is now a very atypical vice-presidential candidate. Yet her selection foreshadows an American election that will run along the well-worn grooves of the culture wars; 2008 will not be that different from 2004 and 2000.

Last summer, I found myself, improbably, at the governor's mansion in Juneau, Ala. -- a reception for our visiting group had been organized to meet the new governor, sworn in less than a year earlier. There was a considerable buzz about this Alaskan pol -- about how very different she was. The impression she made was most favourable.

There is of course her gender -- the first female governor of Alaska. Then there is -- how to put this delicately? -- the fact that she is rather more attractive than your standard haggard timeserver, whether male or female. It is widely remarked that she is a former beauty queen. True enough, but she is not beautiful in that slightly creepy, prettified John Edwards way; she is rather the pretty girl in school who remained that way twenty-five years and five children later.

She is Alaska's youngest-ever governor. And she rocketed to the top of Alaska's political scene by blowing the whistle on the corrupt, insider game that has long characterized the politics of Alaska -- which, aside from geography, is a small state with a lot of big resource companies.

I just spit coffee all over my dog... LOL!!!

That’s the best description of John Edwards ever put into print.

If this were the description of a Democrat male candidate, the Dems would be dancing in the streets.

It INFURIATES them to think that the first woman to become VP could be a Republican. THEY are the ones who get to choose who the "proper" female VP or P is!

I think that you could easily substitute Nancy Pelosi for John Edwards in that particular remark...Dems seem to have a few fake creepy people...

What an insightful, refreshing article. Thank you for posting it.

From article: she is not someone who has risen in politics by sheer longevity. Unlike Senator Obama, who accommodated himself to the seedy ethnoreligious politics of Chicago's South Side in search of political preferment, she challenged he own corrupt party machine to advance. And unlike Senator Clinton-- who, with her husband, never quite exits the stage -- she achieved early success by defeating the old bulls who ran her state, not by marrying the hottest ticket in Arkansas.

And in re her son Trig: "I'm looking at him right now, and I see perfection," Palin said.

Brought water to my eyes. I see this same perfection in those with all kinds of "disabilities" and so-called "imperfections". I see His plan and a glimpse of what lies beyond what we call "concensus reality". Throughout my life have I found refuge, comfort, and joy in those like Trig, at times when it seemed the whole world had gone mad.

If you have any doubts that the Drive Bys are in full panic mode look no farther than this mornings Buffalo News lead editorial. Note especially the last sentence where the editors are attempting to coach Sen. Biden in the debate with Sarah. Oh this is delicious.

From article: Among the first reactions to the choice announced Friday in is that McCain is that he is fishing for the votes of disaffected females upset that Sen. Hillary Clinton lost the Democratic nod to Sen. Barack Obama.

That's what Dems think; but because that's how Dems think, how they view the world. I'm fine with continuing to let them think that. It's not true; but what the hey.

ROFL! Yep, that last paragraph is delicious and entertaining. Oh boyo, I really think Biden ought to do/say exactly that. Hopefully he will. But I really think it’s more Obama’s trite style to say such a thing; besides, “he owes” her (Hillary).

Who appointed the first woman to the Supreme Court? Who appointed the first female (and black) Secretary of State? Of course, we're still just knuckle dragging white male supremacists to the MSM and the Dems (I know, it's redundant).

How about this:"who can't feel sorry for John Edwards, until a few days ago the likely Vice Presidential nominee, now officially the slimiest putz humanity has ever barfed up. Too bad his little indiscretion surfaced, as this impeccably-groomed fungus embodies the true character of some of our most notable Democrat politicians, and would have been perfectly suited for a high position in a Democrat administration."

Clinton appointed the first FEMALE SOS, but of course your larger point is correct. Yet, no surprise, the MSM helps the Dems keep up this "the Republicans are sexist" drivel, so as young people age in this environment, the brainwashing takes hold.

Palin's pick is worth years of MSNBC lies about us, though.

Plugs had better pack a lunch. He'll begin that debate with the audience awaiting his first gaffe or insult.

If Biden gives her the “you’re no Hillary Clinton” line, the obvious response is, “Senator Biden, neither are you.”

No, quite wrong. That sort of response glorifies Hillary Clinton. The correct response would be to smile with pleasure and say, "Thank you. No, I'm certainly not."
