Richard Danzig: How Obama Would Handle Putin
Newsweek ^ | August 30, 2008 | Adam B. Kushner

Posted on 08/30/2008 11:37:33 AM PDT by fightinJAG

At the Democratic presidential nominating convention in Denver last week, Richard Danzig, a top national-security adviser to Barack Obama, seemed to be everywhere. The former Navy secretary reassured visiting diplomats, rapped with security experts and made the case that Obama's foreign policy is more complex than his detractors have made it out to be. He chatted with NEWSWEEK's Adam B. Kushner at a hotel near Invesco Field, where Obama accepted the Democratic nod Thursday night. Excerpts:

Kushner: You were on Obama ' s first world tour. Why do you think that, except for the rules of diplomatic protocol, Obama was generally received like a head of state rather than a candidate? Danzig: His message is very appealing abroad—multilateralism, unity with our allies and talking candidly. He was very good at saying, "I've heard you," and repeating back to people what they said integrated into his own views, and they found it very credible. I don't want to overstate the degree to which America's standing in the world is carried by single personalities, but Barack Obama showed he had presidential stature.

ROFLMAO! Absolutely no opinion or bias in THAT “journalistic” question, is there?

“You and Obama have criticized John McCain ‘ s response to the invasion of Georgia. Is the problem here with ideology or tone?
The Russians need to be made to see that there are consequences. They isolate themselves from the world and suffer as a result—in political terms (with NATO), economic terms (the Russian stock market sank) and strategic terms (Poland rushed to complete a missile defense agreement it previously would have been reluctant to conclude). Making the rhetoric inflammatory—as opposed to showing Russia the cool realities—is not helpful.”

Hasn’t the E.U. ruled out sanctions? I wonder what “cool realities” he means. Obama would meet with Putin or anyone else(except McCain) without preconditions and be made a fool like Jimmy C. ala Brezhnev.

Does anyone besides me realize how many gimmicks the Obama campaign has tried to make their candidate look “Presidential”? From ponied up Presidential seals on the podium, to the whirlwind world-wide tour, to the little Greek Lincoln Memorial at Mile High.

Now, would a campaign that thought it’s candidate looked and felt Presidential be spending this much time and money making him look Presidential? The subliminal message of these gimmicks is that Barack Obama is “Presidential”. Would any other campaign spend time and money on this, if they weren’t afraid their candidate didn’t fit the bill?

Kind of stuck out like a fart at funeral. I guess the campaign is going to be truckin' on from this point.

(probably would be bussin' on but it's highcentered on all his former supporters)

Just what we need, more "NUANCE". So sorry Sparky we're nuanced up to 'here' after Kerry.

Sorry Mr Danzig. What Obama showed was he had celebrity status because the media sucks up to him so much. Nothing Presidential in that.

Putin would take one look at this loon and call the pentagon and ask “Are you sure you want this”

Every American should feel very afraid and count all those sleepless nights.

Obama to Putin

Putin: Lord Obama
Obama: Do you know one of our agents named Jack Bauer? The Chi-coms took him from us.

I admit that yesterday was the first time I actually saw Obambi trying to answer reporters’ questions off-the-cuff.

It was embarrassing.

Biden was standing there looking up at him with a “WTH, haven’t you even mastered the art of rote political BS’ing yet?”

How would Obama handle Putin? Probably go back to Berlin and give another speech to cheering Germans. Of course, they’d turn silent when they realize he is asking them to invade Russia again.

Oinkbama could always fall back on the standard demoKKKrat strategy for “handling” Russia, i.e. bomb some innocent Orthodox Christian country for 80 days and nights including Easter Sunday for the benefit of some group of slammite narco-terrorists or to take some rape allegation against himself off the front pages of our own newspapers...
