ST. PAUL -- The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

The family has identified Levi as the father. Check Drudge, he had it up earlier today.

Of course there are situations where the birth parents do just fine, I have carefully noted that, and often.

ONLY...only, after you were called out on it did you waver from your factually unsound and rigid position that adoption was ALWAYS preferable to teen parents raising their children.

But to deny that adoption is often a valid, wonderful option for the child...

Do NOT try and say that I have said or implied any such utter nonsense, because I have not...to even imply this, proves what a dishonest person you really are and you will go to any lengths in trying "not" to "win" your argument.

I do wish I could understand your anger, I have tried at all times to maintain a civil tone and hope that I have succeeded.

My stated position is that being raised by teenage parents is not the BEST (I emphasize best since that is the word I used from my original post onward) situation for a child.

I am actually rather surprised that this is a controversial statement, especially on a conservative site. I did not mean that to offend and I apologize if you were offended.

It is better for a child to be raised by a stable married couple than by teenagers, even if they are married. I stand by that generality.

Your words!!! Live with them!!!

My stated position is that being raised by teenage parents is not the BEST (I emphasize best since that is the word I used from my original post onward) situation for a child.

Attempting to reword in order to soften what you have earlier stated is dishonest. Period!

Ah, Rhett, poor baby, that's your REAL problem, eh?

...now, good luck on ever finding anyone to help you out with that little, er, situation of yours.

Using their high & mighty standard NO one would ever be fit—including them AND all members of their very own family. I bet there’s at least one back in the old days who forgot to rewind.

Yes, I feel that children are better off raised by a married, stable, heterosexual couple, rather than a single parent, an unmarried couple, a teen couple or a gay couple. I stand by that statement and I don’t think I have wavered from it. I guess my main question to you is why does this make you so angry?

I truly want to understand why this position is so antithetical to your beliefs. Do you think any form of family is fine, there is no distinction between single parents and married parents? Do you honestly think that 17 or 18 is the PREFERABLE age to marry and have children? (I am making a judgment on the BEST or BETTER way, not what might also work out.) If you do, certainly you are entitled to your opinion, but I am a bit surprised to find it on a conservative site.

We occasionally, only occasionally thankfully, get angry phone calls at the adoption agency (directed towards the birth parents) and I have always wanted to understand the mindset behind the anger. I appreciate your giving me that insight.

The more I hear, the more NORMAL this Palin family seems. And that makes me feel more better.

(yeah.. please tell me everyone drives while intoxicated/no big deal/17 years ago/blah-blah-blah) ...

See, that's your "normal life." I can tell you that it sure as hell is not "normal life" for many, and you know what? It isn't that big of a deal! (except to screaming hysterical shrews) For God's sake, chill out. Take a pill. Use your head and look around you at kids who've grown up into pretty good people despite screw-ups and sometimes because of them.

*shaking head in exasperation*

To take a line from a great movie -- there is no "normal" life. There's just life. You LIVE it.

And for Christianity's sake, keep your nose out of other peoples' private family lives. You nattering old church lady!

Why do you say sickening? I am so confused by the rather heated denial of the validity of adoption.

There's nothing wrong with adoption under the right circumstances. There's plenty wrong when it's your default position when the mother is young/not married.

18-25 has been proven by studies to be the optimal age for producing the healthiest children. This is when our bodies are at their peak. Nature says this is when we should have children. Delaying childbirth until later means a greater chance of complications during pregnancy and defects in the children themselves. I don't begrudge anybody having children at a later age, I just don't think its as ideal and you have to take better care of yourself and plan for any complications that may arise.

My parents were 18 and 19 when they had their first child and my wife and I were both 19 when our first was born. All married at the time and until today btw. Never in a million years would it have occurred to me that our child should be given up because we were young. Yes it was tough getting through college with children but we did it with help from both of our loving families and have had very successful careers since. It made us grow up when we were supposed to grow up instead of being adolescents until our late twenties that seems to be the trend nowadays. Having children in your late teens and early twenties was standard for generations. I have no problem with adoption, especially children who come from abusive or neglected backgrounds. I do have a problem that children should be given away simply because its inconvenient and a hindrance to having fun. I am not an advocate of the throw away society.

I think its wonderful that Bristol and her fiance have made the decision to try and raise this child under the institution of marriage together. A biological child being raised by its biological parents who are married should always be option A. That does not demean adoption which can be a correct choice if circumstances are bad enough to warrant it. I guess I am just not as dismissive of the blood blond as you are. I certainly feel it with my children and I think its imprinted on us and should not be so easily dismissed.
