Obama Surrogates Urged To Mention Eagleton
05 Sep 2008 01:56 am
Barack Obama has forbidden his campaign from referencing Gov. Sarah Palin's family and has said he'd fire any staffer who violates the rule. But plenty, it seems, its fair game.
In memos, e-mails and phone calls this week, Obama campaign officials have urged surrogates and allies to mention Republicans who are "nervous" about the Palin pick and to link those worries to George McGovern's aborted vice presidential pick of Thomas Eagleton in 1972, according to three Democratic surrogates.
That year, McGovern rescinded the pick after learning that Eagleton had been treated for depression. Questions about the thoroughness of the Palin vet have been raised, particularly about how and when Palin disclosed the news that her teenage daughter is pregnant and whether Palin's political resume had been thoroughly scrubbed.
On Wednesday, the campaign's chief surrogate wranglers distributed a three page compilation of quotes from Republicans concerned about the Palin pick. (See the text after the jump.) One surrogate said he had been urged to bring up the example of Eagleton in order to seed the idea that McCain might consider dropping him from the ticket.

They are clearly frightened by Gov. Palin.
No Republicans are hoping Obama will drop Biden.
The Obambi campaign is losing it - now they're claiming Gov. Palin is a MAN!!!
This is going to work really well after 40,000,000 people saw that speech. Didn’t she remind you of someone who went thru elecro-shock therapy—paddles on the brain?
Obama does his dirty work through surrogates. He knows what goes on.
The McGovern campaign has much more in common with the Obama campaign (aside from McGovern’s war record), including the outcome, I hope.
If this is true, it’s the most politically tone deaf move I’ve heard of in years.
Boy oh boy, the curtains are sure being drawn back on this guy.
By mentioning Eagleton, they are simply reminding people of other bad choices Democratic presidential candidates have made.
Go Democrat McGovern!
Funny how the first quote was made by someone who detests Palin. (ie., I’m not surprised Lyda Green has nothing good to say about Sarahcuda).
Even funnier...all of those quotes were made before Palin’s speech last night.
“Obama Surrogates Urged To Mention Eagleton”
So that means the entire MSM will be mentioning it in the morning! LOL

Oh thank you I just almost fell off my chair I was laughing so hard. This is just sad!!!Hilarious but sad. Does anyone else notice what a whinny little baby Obama is when things aren’t going his way? Eagleton huh, now that’s a reference everyone will immediately remember .... sad
I burst out laughing at this. Maybe these so-called "Republican delegates" (and I don't believe for a minute that they exist) should get a passport, get on a plane out of LAlaland, and go to - oh, say - OHIO, where hunting is actually considered a respectable sport. They're going to need those voters; this isn't a good time to keep p*ssing them off.
The Dems' strategy is, I guess, an admission of surrender--they can't get rid of Palin, so they're going to hope they can get McCain to do it.
The smartest thing Obama could do now is dump HIS VP choice and crawl back to Hillary...but he can't, and she won't go.
Barring that, looks like they're trying the old Jedi mind trick. "You don't LIKE Sarah Palin...she DIDN'T get a huge viewing audience...you WILL dump her from the ticket..."
If McCain did dump her (he wouldn't), Obama would call her up for a meeting right away.
She eats what she kills. Animals killed in the wild have it far better than those raised on a farm for mass slaughter.
If the writer is refering to Palin as HIM, I don't think I can trust the story.
She's certainly more of a man than Obama.
“One surrogate said he had been urged to bring up the example of Eagleton in order to seed the idea that McCain might consider dropping him from the ticket.”
I bet the Democrats would like McCain to drop Palin. But since when do Democrats determine the GOP VP nominee?!
