go google Sambo’s restaurant.... fun times to remember...
LOL I remember those when I was in high school.
My siblings and I used to have Sambo’s pancakes for breakfast, lunch and dinner during vacations. Yum.
I was a weekend graveyard shift cook at the Sambo’s in Meridian, Mississippi for a short while in the mid 70s. I remain pretty skilled with pancakes.
I grew up in the era when every child read this book - and I read it to my children and now read it to my grandchildren. I know she didn’t call him Sambo because Sambo was a wonderful Black child - and that ain’t BO!
Oh my God....I was at a Sambo’s one night...ahem...morning...3AM ish, and some woman was
sitting at the counter yelling, very loudly, “I’M TIRED
OF LIVIN’ ALONE”.
Needless to say, it made for a fun drunken pancake fest to watch the loonies at Sambo’s!
The Sambo's chain was crushed by the '82 recession, but the original restaurant in Santa Barbara, Calif. remains open.
