With the state's prison guards union threatening to launch a recall, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Monday he would not be intimidated by the union.
"I will not be intimidated by anybody that is demanding more money than the state can afford and that demands deals more than the state is wanting to give," Schwarzenegger said. "So the prison guard union is not going to intimidate me with their kind of action."
"This is a different governor sitting here," he added. "I will not get intimidated."
Schwarzenegger was swept into the California governorship four years and eleven months ago in a dramatic recall of then-Gov. Gray Davis.
Davis' close relationship with labor unions, including the CCPOA, was one Schwarzenegger's critiques of the then-governor.
"The money comes in, favors go out, the people lose," Schwarzenegger famously said.
Schwarzenegger political adviser Adam Mendelsohn harkened back to that theme, issuing a stinging statement, accusing the CCPOA of "selfish tactics worthy of a schoolyard bully."
"It should not be forgotten that prior to the Governor's election this very same union used their money and influence to buy a 37 percent raise at a time when the economy was faltering and the state was struggling to make ends meet," Mendelsohn said. "When he came into office, the Governor put an end to those days and because the Governor has stood firm, CCPOA has resorted these types of heavy-handed ploys to buy off and coerce our leaders into doing their bidding."

Ahhhnnnnuld should call Sarah Palin for help. She is ready to help the girly man.
break the unions stranglehold on the legislature and there might be hope yet, tho, unfortunately I doubt it will happen this shift.
I give the Gub credit for standing up to one of the unions that needs to be reined in.
altho depending who was on the list of replacements, ie: Chuck Norris, Jackie Chan or Jet Li, I might even vote for a recall.
My gut feeling is they wouldn’t even be able to get a recall on the ballot. Arnie is too popular even here in Oakland.
Hoping somehow the CA state GOP (if it still really exists) can turn this to their advantage to help the national GOP ticket.
Wonder if Arnold remembers what it was like to have a pair?
Sorry Arnold, you haven't done the job. You are an under performer since you took office. You had your chance.
Next...
Nah, he won't be intimidated, he will just cave in to the demands.
Wow, what a leader.
NOT
the CA state GOP (if it still really exists)

It’s on hiatus. (fingers crossed it lives to wreak havoc again.)
The core of the Republican members of the Assembly and Senate have hung tough in the taxes and spending areas, even when the Gub was pushing the opposite direction.
The state may surprise in November election, it may be closer than one would expect.. Palin needs to hit the state a few times, ya never know.
The big Austrian phoney needs to be recalled just like they did Gray Davis.
I would prefer to recall the state’s prison guards contract.
I think their recall was triggered by the conviction recently of a prison guard who was hurt on the job and claimed to be permanently disabled. It turns out she was out water skiing and caught doing things she claimed were impossible after her injury. She was just given 7 years in state prison. Arnold is going after prison guards, cops, and firemen claiming disability when they are not disabled. It’s rampant in California and because he wants to stop it, they’re coming after him.
i was looking at annie liebovitz’ photos in the current issue of vanity fair at the drugstore!
unbelievable—the photo of our governor with a cigar on a white horse.
ah-nuld looks like a banana republic dictator.
si.
Arnold is just upset that Roland Kickinger will replace him as the Terminator (a T-800).
Though I not very fond of ol Arnie ... the state’s prison guards union is far worse.
have you seen the photo?
look at the magazine in the super or drugstore.
it looks queer.
The state GOP has been in CCPOA's pocket for years.
Just like NY. The unions are Gov’t protected monopolists, that have nearly become a 4th branch of Gov’t.
I’ll have to check that mag out. Thanks!
Time to light a cigar up.. just saw wifey off to Maui for a week. ;-)
The cigar bar is open!
aRnoldo, Tinhorn Tyrant!
