The trip to the British headquarters of the world's most used internet search engine next month is at the express request of the monarch.

The Queen, 82, who learnt to use a computer only two years also, was the first monarch to set up her own channel on the video-sharing website YouTube.

She now regularly emails all her grandchildren including Princes William and Harry and Zara Phillips. She has become so fascinated by the internet that she has ordered a major upgrade of the Buckingham Palace website which will boast more video footage and be made more user friendly.

When she goes to Google, the internet search engine, the Queen will be introduced to the staff who created the Royal channel on YouTube which allows users to upload and share video clips. She will also meet other people who have YouTube sites.

I heard that, during WWII, she volunteered to drive a transportation truck for military in London, and she became quite a car mechanic herself. Reportedly, she regularly fixed her own cars.

Now it appears that her 'inner geek' launched itself into a new direction at this late age.:-)

I assume the comments are deactivated on the Queen's YouTube channel, to prevent her from scrolling through pages of stuff like:

The story doesn't answer the two most important questions.

1) Mac or Windows?

2) What is her nomme de FReep?

Queen buys iPod: report

June 17, 2005 - 10:08AM

What would HM listen to?

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II has dipped into the royal purse to snap up an iPod, a report said today.

Britain's biggest-selling daily The Sun said the 79-year-old sovereign had bought a six-gigabyte silver model for £169 ($400.05).

The pocket-sized digital music players can hold up to 10,000 downloaded songs.

Probably has, oh, about 100 songs on it too.

I wonder what she's into. Disco? Grunge? Hip-hop? Heavy metal? Fifteen different cover versions of God Save the Queen?

I wouldn’t expect too much, I’ve heard she doesn’t have a lot to say.
