Obama voted AGAINST Katrina Aid

You would think that if someone was trying to make an issue of an opponent’s political support for a project they would be on the opposite side of it. But not Barky Obama. He has a NEW kind of politics. The kind where you attack an opponent to divert attention away from the fact that you supported the project in question to begin with.

In attacking Sarah Palin’s initial support for the Bridge to Nowhere Obama has unearthed a nasty bit of history that certainly doesn’t make him seem like the change candidate he pretends to be. Yep. Senator Barack Obama and his running mate Joe Biden voted for the Bridge to Nowhere. And it’s worse than that. They both voted NO on an amendment that would have diverted that money to help the victims of Katrina.

Here are the facts.

In 2007 when given the chance to divert the money initially earmarked for the Ketchikan bridge in Alaska Obama voted NO! The amendment was offered by Tom Coburn, the Republican that Obama claims he is friends with. Yes that is right. Obama voted NO to helping the victims to Katrina. Instead he decided that the Bridge to Nowhere was much more important than those suffering from such devastating loss.

Obama and Biden Voted for Bridge to Nowhere

Though Gov. Palin originally supported the earmark spending on the Ketchikan bridge (“to nowhere), she eventually killed the project, choosing to spend Federal money on other infrastructure programs.

However, Sen. Biden and Sen. Obama voted for funding the Bridge, even when given a second chance by Sen. Tom Coburn, who proposed shifting earmark funds to Katrina relief.

Does this sound like change to you? To me it sounds like the same old smoke and mirror politics of a seasoned slimeball. Someone that doesn’t even follow the courage of his own professed convictions and fess up to the fact that he made a HUGE error.

But we have seen this before. Witness Obama’s relentless attempt to place the energy crisis squarely in the lap of John McCain when in fact it was Obama that supported that damned 2005 Energy Bill. Not John McCain. He voted against it.

MCCAIN: ON ENERGY, OBAMA = BUSH

“I spoke up against the administration and Congress and Sen. Obama when they gave us an energy bill with more than giveaways to big oil and really no solution to our energy problems,” McCain said. “I want to take a minute here on this issue ’cause I think Sen. Obama might be a little bit confused. Yesterday he accused me of having President Bush’s policies on energy. That’s odd because he voted for the president’s energy bill and I voted against it.”

That is the maverick we all know. Someone unafraid to stand up to his own party and do the right thing for his country. Country First indeed John. I’m with you all the way.

“It had $2.8 billion in corporate welfare to big oil companies and they’re already making record profits as you know,” McCain said of the 2005 energy bill. “Sen. Obama voted for that bill, and it’s big oil giveaways. I know he hasn’t been in the senate that long, but even in the real world, voting for something — voting for something means your support, and voting against something means you oppose it.”

And the worst part of any of this is that when Obama was given a rare do-over and allowed the opportunity to see the error of his ways and actually do something good with the money, he instead chose to stay the course and fund a project that almost all of American scoffed at. Even worse, he thumbed his nose (or was that flipping them off) at the victims of Katrina who really needed more assistance. Even to this day. Not exactly the compassionate (or intelligent) change candidate we are being bamboozled into believing led to believe he is.

Now contrast this with Sarah Palin. When given her chance for a do-over just what did she do? She dropped her initial support for the bridge, kept the money and used it for infrastructure improvements.

But to hear Obama and Biden tell it Sarah was for it until she was against it once Congress pulled the plug. NOT SO!

Obama’s Hypocrisy on the Bridge to Nowhere

In contrast, Sarah Palin stood up to the biggest porkers in her state when she refused to spend taxpayer dollars on the Bridge to Nowhere. Some in the media have claimed that Congress killed the Bridge first. This is not true. Congress removed the requirement to fund the bridge, leaving the choice up to the state. Once given the choice, Palin refused to spend taxpayer dollars on the wasteful Bridge to Nowhere. Standing up to Ted Stevens and Don Young in Alaska is nothing to sneeze at. Clearly, Barack Obama didn’t have the same courage in 2005.

It is clear that there is no NEW politics coming from the so-called Democratic side of the aisle. It is just the same old school, pork barrel politics that panders to the special interests instead of the American people. The only real reformers are John McCain and Sarah Palin. They are the only ones with an actual record of changing anything.

Words matter. But more importantly actions matter. And in a time of great need Barack Obama and Joe Biden chose to ignore the plight of Katrina victims. That tells you whose side they are really on.

NObama! No way. NO DEAL!

The libs need to slow down any rebuilding of New Orleans. They need New Orleans as a political football much the way Arafat used the Palestinans. Keep them poor and desolate and blame it one someone else.

My l0botomized friends will not listen to any criticism of zero! None! Nor will they listen to any of his, uh, uh, rambling off-the-cuff uh, remarks. They will ONLY listen to the speeches written by his hundreds of advisors, and put through hundreds of focus groups, and then memorized and practiced. I tell them not to listen to any politician, but, instead, look at what they’ve done. What they’ve accomplished. It’s a complete “no go” situation. They’re transfixed!

This may seem crass - but has anyone considered the impact that Ike’s devastation may have on the Texas vote in November?

It'll have zero effect. Texas is a Republican lock! Houston has seen flooding and storms before.

Obama voted AGAINST Katrina Aid

A vote I can agree with.

Yep. Senator Barack Obama and his running mate Joe Biden voted for the Bridge to Nowhere.

A vote I can't agree with. I have to note that 0bama isn't owning up to this vote at all.

You miss the point... The left pushes their "care" for the "poor suffering" folks... and blasting the Bush administration for not giving even MORE money towards Katrina recovery... This demonstrates that the Dems/libs are liars.
