Biden: The Middle Class is dying
KansasCity Star ^ | September 16, 2008 | Matt Schofield

Joe Biden, by far the lowest profile member in the club of four now seeking the White House, lashed out on CNN's American Morning today, at economic policies that he says are killing the American Middle Class.

Below are a couple quotes from the show (and let's face it, they're Biden quotes, so they're long).

When asked what he and Barack Obama would do to fix the current economic mess, he said:

"Create jobs, keep people in their homes and increase regulatory oversight of the very people John has refused to regulate. And by creating job, we'd spend $600 billion on going out -- $60 billion creating new infrastructure jobs, roads, highways, bridges, all the things we need.

Keep people in their houses by allowing them to renegotiate not only their interest on their loans, but their principle on their loans and bankruptcy. Make sure that we're in a position where we start to deal with the debt. Look, John talked -- I just heard John's interview, I find it absolutely fascinating.

This is the same guy who wants to continue to spend $10 billion a months on the war in Iraq, when the Iraqis have $80 billion stashed away from oil prices. It's the same fellow who's going to part of his administration view he shares, it's going to hand the next president a $400 billion debt deficit for that year. This is the same guy who watched and presided over, not presided over, but supported Bush, says the economy's strong. And we lost 604,000 jobs this year. Come on! And the truth of the matter is, is what you heard in the last interview. Every economist points out that we give out tax breaks to the middle class ..bla bla blah

And if Obama bin Biden wins, the middle class will be DEAD.
Rescinding the Bush tax cuts will be the biggest tax INCREASE in US history and will royally SCREW the MIDDLE CLASS, who
have benefitted tremendously.

I just had this conversation with my representative on our City Council this morning, they want to put in a 1% ‘surcharge’ on our utility bills for ‘roads’. Along with that, the county wants to institute a new sales tax to meet the funds designated in the last transportation bill (Bill Thomas’s legacy lives on). Then the state of California wants to up the sales tax by 1% “temporarily” (yeah, sure).
We are slowly being taxed to death. I am sick of it. My vote goes to noone, period, who wants to raise my taxes, even if they call it a surcharge, by a nickel.

Well, of course. People HAVE to have homes, you know. Next they’re going to make car dealers pay for part of the cars people bought, because people HAVE to have transportation to get around. Oh, and grocery stores will pay for part of everyone’s food, because people HAVE to eat. Yeah, this makes sense.

Whatever bracket they chose to try to make their point. Thomas Sowell discusses this at great length in his book Economic Facts and Fallacies.

"In his discussion of income, Sowell cites a currently popular political lament: the impending "demise" of the American middle class. This widely-accepted assertion, he writes, is simply a function of statistical voodoo: defining a "middle class" income bracket (say, $35,000 to $50,000), claiming it is shrinking, and then ignoring the fact that the bracket is shrinking because average incomes are moving up, not down, the curve.

The Obama/Biden “Tax Plan” is actually nothing more than another step in the socialist wealth redistribution scheme pushed by liberals year after year.
They are tryng to disguise wealth redistribution as income tax policy.

Obama/Biden promise to reduce taxes for 95% of Americans who file income tax returns.

But this is impossible because 40% already do not have to pay any taxes at all.

In fact, thanks to the Earned Income Credit EIC), a big percentage of that group get PAID money from the IRS instead of having to PAY the IRS like the rest of us.
EIC eligibility goes up to almost $40K for a married couple with 2 kids, and almost $38K for a single parent with 2 kids. A married couple with 2 kids can make up to $38K, maybe a little more, and not pay any federal income tax.

So, what Obama/Biden plan on doing is to increase the redistribution of taxes paid by the upper 60% who are real taxpayers and use that money to increase handouts for people in the other 40% who already do not pay any income tax at all.

If you can survive without handouts but have to work for a living, I'd say that defines middle class.

It must be nice to get into that rhythm between cocktails and cameras where you think up the most outrageous things to say in a desperate ploy for attention.

Hey, isn’t that Joe Biden sprawled across the back three seats of that empty press section of the campaign plane? Has anybody seen my Jack Daniels?

One other thing...if Joe Biden cares so much for the middle class, then how come as the Senator from Wilmington, DE where most of the credit card companies are based, he hasn’t done some kind of meaningful credit card reform.

If he wants to help the middle class, why doesn’t he spearhead legislation to limit credit card fees, arbitrary changes in credit limits, and auto spikes to the highest interest rate if you are a day late with a payment or go over your arbitrary limit by even a dollar.

The credit card companies have a majority of American households living in secret shame, indentured to 23.00% interest rates and too ashamed to say anything about it. Yet, Joe Biden benefits immensely from their personal support of him. Joe Biden is a sanctamoneous fraud with a brother and son profiting from his illgotten position in Washington. But hey, he had tragedy in his life 35 years ago so, it’s all good!

The explanation for this is easy.

Income distribution, like most other things, is a bell curve.

“Middle class” is defined as making between X and Y income.

However, the whole bell curve has SHIFTED TO THE RIGHT, the true middle are making more money. Biden and his ilk are still defining “middle class” between X and Y, which is on a lower left side of the curve now, and has less people in it than the true middle of the curve.

Can you all picture what I’m describing?

The middle class is struggling because big money is in the financial sector, and the crafty people went there and made junk investments look like gold. It happened so fast that no policies were put in place by private industry or gov’t to put on the brakes. Wild stock, commodity and real-estate swings make for jumpy investors who hide back in cash until things stabilize.

High gas prices are killing the middle class.

Biden supports the Comprehensive Permanent Drilling Restriction Plan.

Biden is killing the middle class. Deliberately.

And his idiot constituents will re-elect him.
