You'd think Chris Matthews would learn his lesson. First he insulted Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell as "showcase appointments," only to apologize for it later. Then, on Tuesday's "Hardball" he essentially called Sarah Palin an empty "vessel" with no "independent thinking" of her own, just "like a Clarence Thomas." [audio excerpt available here]
Matthews made the following gaffe during a discussion about Sarah Palin's readiness, on the September 16, "Hardball":

Mathews thinks of himself as profound and all that, but didn’t he learn a lesson from him and Olbermann being demoted from election coverage at MSNBC? Didn’t he realize that was a signal that he had gone too far, and he needs to tone it down?
The next step would be out the door at MSNBC. Doesn’t he need his comfortable six-figure paycheck that he gets from talking his nonsense? Would he like to go work at a real job instead?

Believe or not, I’ve seen McCain surrogates when pressed to give an example for sexism against Palin, not have one off hand to list believe it or not. I think this one takes the cake.
