It is kind of nebby-nerdy, isn't it? There was an extended member of our family who took it upon herself to sneak into family members' homes and actually tidy up for them and actually (get this) THROW THINGS AWAY. "You've got too many of those," she would say. I think of her everytime someone fails to comment on the content and gets all high and mighty about thread housekeeping.
