Courage: Gilchrest, who lost a tough Republican primary in February, also has endorsed the Democratic candidate vying to succeed him next year.

Gilchrest’s voting record is considered liberal for a Republican, and he voted with Democrats more than any other Republican house member in 2007.

In addition to supporting environmental legislation, he is pro-choice on abortion, and supports a repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.

Gilchrest is a member of many moderate Republican groups such as the Republican Main Street Partnership, Republicans for Environmental Protection, Republicans For Choice, Christine Todd Whitman’s IMP-PAC (It’s My Party Too) and the Republican Majority For Choice. He is also the co-chairman of the Congressional Climate Change Caucus together with the Democrat John Olver.

In 2006, Gilchrest voted against the Palestinian Anti-Terrorism Act

On September 26, 2006, Gilchrest voted against the Private Property Rights Implementation Act of 2006 which would allow property owners access to federal court for their Fifth Amendment takings claims.

In March, 2007, Gilchrest was one of two Republicans to vote for a bill that required President George W. Bush to bring combat troops home from Iraq by September 1, 2008.

Also in June of 2007, Gilchrest voted against a series of amendments offered by Representative Jeff Flake to strip earmarks from the Fiscal Year 2008 Financial Services and General Government appropriations bill.

Gilchrest crosses party lines, endorses Democrat Kratovil, even cutting an ad for him (baltimoresun.com)

I am in this district (MD 1st) and we dumped this RINO for a real conservative in the primary last spring - Andy Harris, who is leading the Dem opponent.

People here are furious that Gilchrest has betrayed them. Harris will win the district comfortably. Net conservative gain.

This is great news!!!

This RINO endorsed Harris’s opponent in Maryland’s 1st district. He tried to be all “moderate” good of the district yada yada, but this will really hurt the dem candidate Kratovil or whatever his name is. Keep in mind this area is so conservative now, thanks to DEM gerrymandering dumping all the conservatives in two districts in the state, that the dem has had to put “INDEPENDENT” on all his signage to hide the fact he is a dem-LOL

“He’s got this Republicans vote!!!!! Time for some new blood, Palin will take us back to burning witches at the stake. No thanks!”

Then he sent this:

Okay, so this simple p.o.s. is gone anyway. Who cares what he says now?
