I hope she took in the Flyers preseason game which was last NHL game at the Spectrum this afternoon. That building was the foundation of hockey in Philly. The Flyers and Sixers moved across the street to the Center 10 years ago, but that was the place were Philly saw its first major championship in many years back in 1974 with the Broad Street Bullies. Its been the home of the Flyers minor league team the Phantoms since but they are tearing it down in the spring for a new complex.

Its a shame because the place is the best place to see arena sport as you are right in top of the action. There isn't a bad seat in the house. Flyers and Sixers game were a raucous affair.

Best moment? I was there with a friend celebrating the birth of my daughter, wife was still in hospital. JJ Daigneault scored at the end of game six of the Stanley Cup Finals against Gretsky’s Edmonton Oilers in 1987 to send the series back to Edmonton for game seven. The Flyers were considered dead meat in that series. But that goal shook the foundations. The Center recently installed 2 freighter ship horns to rock the house on goals but it really pales to that moment.BTW Flyers crowned their new captain Mike Richards after honoring all their past team captains (sans Eric Lindros) and he scored 2 shorthanded goals in a 4-2 win over Carolina... Very cool

Section 21, row 4 seats 3-8. That is where my husband grew up. Then he married me and that is where my children grew up. We have had the tickets in our family since the year before Bobby Clarke. There are so many memories of being in that place. I can’t believe they are going to knock it down.

Great memories you bring up with the Spectrum. I remember the Daigneault goal as I was in Boston at the time going nuts in a bar at Fanueil Hall. Hard to believe it was over 20 years ago!

How about those Fightin's!!
