Older voters' racial bias may have medical reason
Houston Chronicle ^

The personality is familiar to us all: the sweet old aunt, the loving grandfather or the generous widow down the street, each of them unfailingly kind toward friends and family but given to flights of shocking prejudice when the conversation turns toward ethnic groups to which they don't belong.

Often the response is a nervous laugh, a wan smile or a hasty effort to change the subject.

We assume that old people are the products of less-enlightened times; they're unlikely to change; and their comments, however ugly, are largely innocuous.

Now, though, in the midst of the nation's first presidential campaign between a black candidate and a white one, a convergence of new political and scientific research suggests that prejudice and stereotyping among elderly white Americans in particular may not be so innocuous after all.

Older white voters heavily favored Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton over Sen. Barack Obama during the Democratic primary season, and national polls indicate that group now leans toward Sen. John McCain, the Republican nominee, by 10 percentage points or more.

Idiotic articles like this that are little more than the MSM easing into the letdown of a McCain victory help me sleep better at night.

Now this is the biggest heap of Barbra Streisand I’ve ever read.

People are basically being their most honest and truest to their actual feelings when they’re either children or seniors. It doesn’t justify it, but everything between is basically the social mask that we create to maintain relations. As we age, those inhibitions break down like a lot of other things. It’s not pleasant to watch, but it’s part of life.

I am almost speechless, aside from gleaning the pearl that by the time Obambi runs for re-election, at least 10% of these elderly voters will conveniently not be able to make it to the polls...

OMG

The reason older people aren't voting for BozObama is because older people are able to see through the BS easier, having been around the block a time or two and we know a communist when we see one.

I love these types of articles, more than anything else they tell me that bozObama is tanking and the left stream media knows it. Excuses made before the election for a loss they know is inevitable.

I wonder if biased, ignorant writers also have a “medical reason” for their stupidity.

B-b-b-ut I just read another article saying that McCain was behind Obama with the older voter demographic!

Seriesly, Mr. Witt, you got paid to write this tripe?

calm down. I am simply making the point that seniors have historically preferred the Democrat party and something has changed.

And it’s not just about Obama. mccain won florida seniors during the primary even though he filibustered the medicare drug benefit and wants private accounts for social security.

I love the sort of faux concern “tsk tsk” style of this article. “Ah, you rubes, you can’t help being prejudiced. It’s a medical condition”. Yes, I guess the medical condition might be an extreme aversion to having our pockets picked and being insulted to boot!

Oh, now that so many typically old, liberal feminists exposed themselves as racists, they’ve devised an excuse.

ROFL. When the “progressive” candidate (who obviously the lower non-wealthy classes should support) doesn’t catch on with the commons, then it’s a medical issue.

This is yet another mental dropping from a lefty author centered around the theme of an extreme liberal’s opponents as backwards racist neanderthal nationalistic insane cranks, perhaps suffering from a medical condition.

These show up every election cycle.

One could say that homosexuality was a medical condition and that belief in global warming was some kind of New Age religion for treehumpers, but that might be a little too close to the truth for some.
