Hat’s backwards, too...
First, the medals are EARNED. Many of the men who earn them do so with their dying acts. For someone who has NOT earned the right to wear a medal to do so is a slap in the face to everyone in uniform. It is also, finally, ILLEGAL. So is wearing a uniform to pass yourself off as a serviceman or woman, when you are not and never have been. Presenting yourself as a Navy Captain, say, when you were an Air Force E-1, is likewise illegal AND morally wrong (in all these cases). We who served, especially in Vietnam, were defamed and mocked when we got home. Now, for some reason it’s considered a GOOD thing to have been a Vietnam veteran in some circles, so many folks who were ANTI-WAR at the time are lying to folks about their “service” (the lack of it). These despicable scumsuckers are once again defaming and mocking the REAL veterans.
It’s not the same as someone wearing a Cross who’s not a Christian, as God knows the heart. There has been some serious damage done by those posing as veterans. In my (never to be humble) opinion, these posers should be cleansed thoroughly in a vat of boiling oil, the universal specific, or given the option to spend a week in the embrace of the Iron Maiden.
As you may have noted, some of us do get passionate on this topic, as it is OUR honor being stolen, more often than not by former war PROTESTERS, the hippie scumbags who treated us like dogcrap when we got home.
And reenactors do not try to pass themselves off as what they are NOT.
Bump to that!
Thanks for the ping, SmithL.
Salvation is given not earned.
Military honors are earned not given.
Pretty damn simple.
And those that have earned something do not like anybody pretending to deserve what they’ve earned.
I am not a violent man, but even I am tempted to pimp slap idiots who lie about their service when so many men who DID serve keep quiet about it.
And those that have earned something do not like anybody pretending to deserve what theyve earned.
Although I understand the sentiment, I still think that it is anyone’s right to wear what they please.
Even those of us who haven't earned those distinctions do not like it when somebody pretends that they've earned them when they haven't.
Although I understand the sentiment, I still think that it is anyones right to wear what they please.
Would I be correct in assuming that you've never been in the service? If you had, I'd find your making that statement quite surprising.

You are correct but people I love have been in the service.
I just love that picture!
You might ask them if they agree with your statement. (My money says they wouldn't.)
Ask them what they think about posers.
My husband DIED in the “race to Baghdad” and he doesn’t have rate a Purple Heart....
I’d like to see this guy put in a tank in the middle of Iraq. Maybe then he’ll get what those medals mean.
Sorry, meant to write doesn’t have/rate a Purple Heart.
I agree.
But people should have the opportunity to be jerks. It doesn't mean that we don't shun them. Or make fun of them. But the law has no place here. It is just another example of our creeping totalitarianism.
This is fraud only because we make it “fraud.” Otherwise it is someone playing dressup.
People are characters, some good and some bad. They do stupid things. Making something like this a crime instead of a community shame is IMHO, going too far.
Does that mean that I don’t respect and honor the valor of our soldiers. No. But it does mean that I think that someone acting like a jerk is a jerk and one should not be imprisoned for jerkness.
There are way too many laws out there.
Yah...I was a model soldier.Brave and gungho,too! ;-)
At some level everything illegal is illegal (as opposed to immoral) only because we make it illegal.
If the guy wants to play dressup, he should be a musketeer. Louis XIII isn't around to prosecute for pretending to be in his military.
