On the day before the heavily anticipated debate of the vice-presidential candidates, some of the scrutiny has shifted to its moderator.
V.P. debate moderator Ifill releasing pro-Obama book, a headline in WorldNetDaily, a Web site for conservative news and opinion, said of Gwen Ifill, the host of Washington Week and senior correspondent of The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer on PBS.
The 272-page book, The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama, is scheduled for publication in hardcover on Jan. 20 by Doubleday, an imprint of Random House.
According to the publishers description of the book, Ms. Ifill surveys the American political landscape, shedding new light on the impact of Barack Obamas stunning presidential campaign and introducing the emerging young African American politicians forging a bold new path to political power.
The book has not been kept under wraps by Random House, which listed it in its catalog, along with a synopsis and official publication date. On Wednesday, a spokesman for the publisher said the book is not completed yet and the final manuscript will not be filed until after the election.
But Fox News reported that the McCain campaign did not know about the book, and suggested that its impending publication distorts Ms. Ifills objectivity as a moderator.
I think I told them when I made my efforts e-mails about midnight to find out, Greta Van Susteren of Fox News wrote on her blog about the McCain campaign. It simply is not fair in law, this would create a mistrial.
The McCain campaign itself has not complained. A spokesman did not return calls for comment.

Didn’t Ms. Ifill say before the debate the portion of the book on Obama hadn’t been finished yet? I guess they just told her future writings couldn’t exceed the total of 272 pages.
All things considered, she was fairer than most of the self-proclaimed fair-minded journalists would have been.
If Gwen Ifill were sufficiently ethical to serve as moderator in this debate, she would have recused herself and refused to serve as moderator.
But did Ifell announce on the program before the debate began that she had a book coming out about Obama?
noooooooooooooooooooooooo...
“If Gwen Ifill were sufficiently ethical to serve as moderator in this debate, she would have recused herself and refused to serve as moderator.”
BINGO! WE HAVE A WINNER!
Surprise, surprise but the Times article really is not accurate. Michelle Malkin truly broke this story on a tip from a Freeper. WND is getting the credit because Drudge linked to its story.
The MSM is spending more and more time defending Obama and its own partisanship. This is a positve sign that the Republicans publicly waging war against the biased media is paying off; keeping them on the defensive will only make them look worse.
How she really feels can be best explained by these two comments caught off debate when it was over.
To Palin: "Now that wasn't so bad, was it?" (like a parent to a child).
To Biden: "You did very, very well!" (No explanation necessary).
Bottom line? She is the penultimate example of affirmative action incompetency through diversity.
I agree. I’ve watched gwen for years, she is a class woman, person, and no doubt lefter than most of us. Big deal and stop the whining john...
I agree...Sarah Palin is “head & shoulders” above anyone who is presently in politics!
Kudos to McCain for choosing her.
She certainly is “easier on the eyes” than any Lib woman out there and we have a woman who doesn’t have to wear pant suits ‘cause she has fat legs & a fat ass! LOL
and PLEASE, FReepers, no pix of the Lefties...thank you.
“...The 272-page book, ...”
Wait a minute. We were told she hasn’t written the chapter on Obama yet.
the bias in questions not asked...ie. usually the questions will be about liberal concerns
Ifill actually stated that she hadn’t interviewed O as yet.
So what the heck is in her book.
She’s a hack now, always a lib hack. If it weren’t for her skin color she’d be asking paper or plastic.
I agree, I thought she was fair, and actually performed more of a function than what passed for moderation in the first ‘debate.’
It seems to me that since the blogosphere, Freepers included, have sharp eyes and ears and are a force to be reckoned with, journalists with at least a modicum of fairness are going to be on their best behavior. Granted, she might have tilted a bit had there not been controversy prior to the debate itself, but the bottom line is that what actually happened seemed fair. Ultimately, that matters more than what might have been. Let the Left be on their toes—and if Palin runs into some partisan nonsense, she is more than qualified to call attention to it. Had Ifill not been relatively impartial, it would only have hurt their side.
I gather that it is about five black political heavy weights and the difference they have made on the political landscape. The five include Colin Powell, Corey Booker of New Jersey, Artur Davis of Alabama, Deval Patrick of Massachusetts and of course Obama.
