Wick Allison Endorses Obama...In Other News, Squirrel Learns to Water Ski [Jonah Goldberg]

From a reader, speaking for a few others:

Wick joins jeffery hart in endorsing obama. why do i get the feeling this will be ignored at the corner today?

Me: Well, you're hearing about it now. As for why folks aren't making a bigger deal of it, the answer is really quite simple. It's not a big deal. And it's not news. Beyond that, I guess it's earth shattering.

For the record, I addressed this Obamacon nonsense here and here.

I'll just add that I think this continued effort to point to a groundswell of conservatives flocking to Obama is hilarious. It's just not true (unless you think Andrew Sullivan is still a conservative). Going by the polls, independents and conservative Democrats support McCain far more than the other way around. The Democrats put up Jim Leach and the mayor of Fairbanks, Alaska as proof of Obama's bipartisan appeal at their convention. Joe Lieberman, the 2000 Democratic vice presidential nominee, was a keynoter at the Republican convention.

I have no personal animus — or relationship — with Wick Allison, but his endorsement of Obama really means next to nothing in the grand scheme of things. Indeed, Lynn Forester de Rothschild's endorsement of McCain is a much bigger deal by comparison and even that is not big deal in objective terms.
