Barack Obama has erased traditional Republican advantages in four key bellwether counties that President George W. Bush won in 2000 and 2004, according to a new Politico/InsiderAdvantage survey. Each county is critical to the outcome in the battleground state where it is located.
In Reno, Nevada's Washoe County, Obama leads McCain by a 46-45 percent margin, with six percent undecided. Obama posts a wider 50-44 percent lead with five percent undecided in Raleigh, North Carolina's Wake County, and another 6-point lead in Hillsborough County, Fla., where Tampa is located. There, he edges McCain 47-41 percent, with 11 percent undecided.
Among the four counties tested, McCain leads in only one: Jefferson County, Colo., a populous Denver suburb. McCain is ahead there by a margin of 45-43 percent, with eight percent undecided.
At first glance, these Politico/InsiderAdvantage numbers might not look so troubling for McCain, who trailed Obama by 10 points in an ABC/Washington Post national survey, released Monday.
But these four counties are crucial battlegrounds in four of the most competitive states in the presidential race. In recent years, the Republican path to the White House has run through these areas.
In 2004, President Bush won Washoe County, Nevada's second-most populous county, by a four-point margin over Massachusetts Sen. John F. Kerry. This year, when Obama is expected to run up a big vote lead in Las Vegas' Clark County, McCain is unlikely to be able to afford a loss in Washoe.

This is complete malarky!!! No way is Obama leading in Tampa. We are crushing them with signs, bumper stickers, and sign waving. Also, I haven’t really met anyone here passionate for Obama. Hillsborough County is McCain/Palin country. Don’t believe outside idiots who add up numbers the way they want to.

And it basically validates every other poll that is currently showing an Obama lead. McCain needs a game changer before the clock runs out....
POLLS POLLS POLLS! I’m sick of polls and they are all meaningless. Watching a PBS documentary last night about Nixon. He was trailing Humphrey in the polls in the week before the election in 1968 and the rest is history. Interestingly, they forgot to poll the “silent majority”. I have a feeling history is repeating itself as it usually does time and again.
There is a lot of doom and gloom trolls or whiners lately!
They say either Cut and Run or Give up the Ship.
A 46-45 poll is NOT a lead; I live in Hillsborough County and I don’t believe for a minute that Obama leads here. I am a staunch republican, but I can tell you that I have several friends/acquaintances who are staunch democrats — NOT a one of them is voting Obama, NOT ONE.
I think all the polls are skewed; I think the media is using polls to project the outcome of the election. It won’t work. The american public is a lot smarter than the politico “reporters”.
Kerry has a 8 point lead in Ohio.
and at a bet, i bet those polls all have a 6 to 12% dem bias, no doubt.
You know of other polls taken in these counties? If so where are they?
It's the latest tactic among our new “FRiends”.
I think the pollsters are trying to factor in the voter fraud. They want to remain credible but don’t know how much of these bogus votes will be counted so they err on the side of the Democrats. It must be tough being a pollster these days! I don’t know anyone voting for Obama.
I’m really fed up up with your stupid comments.
Good gracious. Would we have done an indepth anysis of “areas” had Obama been behind. This is ridiculous. When will we start polling streets???? Oh, over there on Pine street, they went for McCain by four houses and three house went for Obama earlier this year, but now four houses are for Obama and three houses are for McCain.....BARF!!!!!
I’m referencing state & national polls. They are validated by this article.
The Silent Majority has caller ID.
Pray for W, Palin/McCain and Our Troops
Welcome to FR.
He was trailing Humphrey in the polls in the week before the election in 1968 and the rest is history.
Horribly bad history that must never be repeated. We don’t need to go back to those dark days. McCain resigning in shame is not what I look forward too. lol.
Never mind him, he is convinced that McCain is running a winning campaign right now.
