McCain: Ayers will come up in debate By: Andy Barr October 14, 2008 11:05 AM EST

John McCain said Tuesday that Barack Obama is “probably ensured” that his association with 1960s radical William Ayers will come up in Wednesday’s debate.

“I was astonished to hear him say that he was surprised that I didn’t have the guts” to bring up Ayers, McCain said on KMOX, a St. Louis radio station.

“I think he is probably ensured that it will come up this time.”

McCain was responding to Obama’s charge last week that the Arizona senator was willing to make attacks on the campaign trail that he would not say in person.

“I am surprised that, you know, we've been seeing some pretty over-the-top attacks coming out of the McCain campaign over the last several days, that he wasn't willing to say it to my face,” Obama said. “But I guess we've got one last debate. So presumably, if he ends up feeling that he needs to, he will raise it during the debate.”

Darn it McCain, don’t show you hand. If you are going to pull that card, don’t announce it, let Obamalamadingdong think you are going to play the same way you have been playing...

McCain will use the term what’s his name rather than using his name.

Too bad we didn’t make Odinga an issue.

We actually have some video of the two campaigning together.

And a guarantee the dems would cry wolf over racism.

McCain needs to do a surprise assault with Odinga, Khalid Al Mansour, Rashid Khalidi, et.

Maybe it will come up in the debate when McCain apologizes to Obama and the American People for ever tarnishing the reputation of such a fine upstanding young man.

*sigh*

It’s not very clever to tell a former POW and Veteran of a war that “he has no guts”.

Can John telegraph a few more punches...just so Obama can get his guard up?

A brief litany of names should come up, each followed by a short explanation. Zero is ready for Ayers, he won’t be ready for a list!

Whether it's good or not to bring up Ayers, WHY does it seem a good idea to McCain to telegraph the punch?

Surprise and shock are wonderful effects, telling your opponent what you are going to do before hand is NOT.

Just Dam*n

He better be prepared to respond to any criticism for his participation of the Council Of World Freedom Matters.

Obviously its easy to say “yea, a council that hated communism. Show me an American who is for communism except for the one next to me”.

Didn’t McCain already defuse this issue when he told that Ohio audience we had nothing to fear from an Obama presidency?

I hope someone tells McCain how to respond to the “ I was 8 years old” claim by Obama. In my view the retort should be that Ayers was pictured standing on an American Flag around 2001. Obama wasn’t 8 years old then. In any event, Ayers should be shunned by decent society for his violent and anti-american past.

My bet is that McCain doesn't bring it up until his closing statement. Obama will be waiting with his canned response to a comment that he never gets to answer.

It will be the 800 lb. elephant in the room that no one talks about. It will be on everyones mind for the entire debate.

(I would say 800 lb. gorilla, but that would be considered racist....)

Agreed, why in the world telegraph what you’re planning. Actually, I’ll be happy if McCain just lays off the republican bashing and the I’m a bipartisan kennedy feingold lovefest.
