California voters are set to decide on a ballot initiative banning same-sex marriage, and a recent poll shows support for the initiative is gaining ground.
Proposition 8 would overrule the California Supreme Courts May 15 decision that allowed same-sex marriage, and it would amend the state constitution to reserve marriage licenses only for a man and a woman.
The state Supreme Courts ruling made California the second state behind Massachusetts to legalize homosexual marriage. On Friday, Connecticut became the third state to allow same-sex marriage thanks to a ruling by the state Supreme Court.
A poll conducted by SurveyUSA on behalf of a California television station (CBS 5) shows that 47 percent of voters planned to vote for Proposition 8 on the California ballot, compared to 42 percent, who oppose it.
In comparison, a SurveyUSA poll released Sept. 25 found 44 percent planned to vote for Proposition 8 while 49 percent planned to vote against it.
Support for the same-sex marriage ban has grown since the start of a television ad campaign showing San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, saying that homosexual marriage was here whether you like it or not.
Ironically, the poll found support for Proposition 8 has grown among young voters, which are considered the most unpredictable voters and the hardest to poll.
The SurveyUSA poll was conducted among 670 likely voters and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percent.
Meanwhile, homosexual couples from California and outside of the state are rushing to get married before Election Day in case voters approve the initiative.

This is the type of issue that may be our lifesaver in November. People have been driven in the polls in the past over this kind of thing—if Americans think that the country is being overtaken with this kind of leftist stuff, they will respond with their presidential vote as a kind of protest against another state’s liberalism.
It doesn’t matter.
The will of the voter will be overturned by some liberal, gay loving judge.
*sigh*
There’s no telling what Californians will do but thank the Lord for this poll. The ad we’re seeing most often is about how it will affect what the kids are taught in schools if we don’t pass this bill. We are already freaked over a CA Supreme Court ruling that parents don’t have any control over what is taught in the classroom. Add to the mood the video Bill O’Reilly ran yesterday of the first grade teacher who took her class on a “field trip” to her own lesbian wedding. We failed to pass a parental notification law two years ago, but I think we’ve reached the tipping point on social issues at last, God willing. It may help our Republican reps as well, by driving more folks in the red counties to the polls.
Then the USSC will reject the case and leave it up to the states. If not we will have to do same on the national level. Amend the US Constitution....
>>>The will of the voter will be overturned by some liberal, gay loving judge.
That’s not how I would have phrased it but essentially it is correct. The California court is Lucy holding out the football. They draw a distinction between “revisions” and “amendments” to the state constitution, each calling for different methods to implement.
It is expected Plan B will be that if this proposal passes, the court will rule the wrong procedure was followed. That instead of a referendum, a constitutional convention was necessary.
Right. This issue is a winner for the GOP. Why?
America 60% conservative 30% liberal

Not only that, this is the most vulnerable the rats have ever been on regarding abortion. Sarah-cuda has a strong issue to pound:
Palin gets personal over abortion (It’s not personal to point out Obama supports killing babies)

And what do we do about the judge problem?
California voters are set to decide on a ballot initiative banning same-sex marriage, and a recent poll shows support for the initiative is gaining ground
To what end?
We seem to have reached a point where the “will of the people” no longer matters or counts in America. If this law passes the socialists will simply use the courts to squash it as they do anythng that goes against their agenda to destroy America..
I guess there’s still too many Christians in Cal.
Is this the amendment in which you’ve got to vote “no” to mean “yes” and “yes” to mean “no?”
If so, how likely is that to fool the people?
Do you think Californians want gay marriage or do they want to ban gay marriage?
If they vote to ban gay marriage, can the courts overturn it by claiming some violation of rights?
Yet Californians overwhelmingly vote for ‘Rats.
It may have been our lifesaver in other states but it won’t do the job in California. The banana republic voters have arrived and they reflect the culture they came from.
I confess I did not read that. Thanks for pointing it out to me.
If it works, look for many other states to follow suit. But I'm instinctively distrustful of judicial shenanigans interfering.
Every one will be watching this vote! I pray it passes... for Californians and for Americans!
True enough.
Its time to draw a line.
No judge should be allowed to thwart the will of the people.
A million people at the court’s door immediately after any decision.
And they don’t leave until the decision is revoked.
The time has come to channel all that “anger” into determined action.
Let the people decide and let no court revoke that decision PERIOD.
Go Palin-McCain!
Cheers!
Looking at post # 5, I find that I may be wrong.
It was pointed out that this amendment attacks the problem in a different method than previously attempted.
Keep your fingers crossed - this might be effective.
As I already posted let the people immediately show up at the courtroom door and keep on coming till they are a million strong.
The crowd stays until the court changes its mind.
This is the people vs. the judges once and for all.
A line must be drawn and sacrifice made so that the people’s will stands over judicial tyranny.
I’m trying to be serious here and its easy for a guy in the East to say because California is far away. But I say Californians should show up first and the rest of us make our way out.
If gay marriage stands in California it will spread East from there, so let the judges who think they’re Hugo Chavez get the taste of protest Venezuelans have given him.
Massive crowds in the street staying there until the court backs down.
