Schwarzenegger, Bloomberg to campaign together (moderate "soul mates" pumping Prop 11 up)

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will campaign today with New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg for Proposition 11, an initiative to change how California draws its district boundaries.

The two will appear publicly at the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce offices, joined by representatives from AARP, California Common Cause and other organizations.

--snip--

Schwarzenegger and Bloomberg have worked together to promote federal infrastructure investment. And the Republican governor once called Bloomberg his "soul mate," a reference to their shared moderate political views.

..

But a mid-September poll by the Public Policy Institute of California found one in three voters still undecided on Proposition 11. Just 38 percent of likely voters supported it, with 33 percent opposed.

(snip)

But even some longtime redistricting supporters oppose the November initiative, such as political activist Ted Costa, the lead author of Proposition 77, the failed 2005 initiative that would have placed a panel of three retired judges in charge of drawing the districts.

He said loopholes in Proposition 11 would allow the Legislature to change the commission’s makeup and that powerful interest groups such as public employee unions could exploit the open application process to recruit ringers to serve on it.

A couple of friends of the Wasp family in Lodi were emailing us last night asking our tendencies on the ballot measures. Then we compared and found they went for this dumb move (prop 11) after they agreed with us on all the others except the (prop 2) poor little animals being brutalized by the vicious, cruel FARMERS & RANCHERS!!!

Ads with pictures can lead so many people to vote for costly props that are just exercises in futility!!!

The whole ballot measure process has been completely bastardized to the max!!!

PLEASE PEOPLE... IF IN ANY DOUBT, VOTE NO!!!

Ah thank you! I was trying to remember the reasons you brought forth previously to explain the terrible weakness in Prop 11 to our Lodi friends last night.

You are without a doubt one of the FReeperworld's foremost authorities on CA ballot measures. CA FReepers would all be most wise to use your knowledge AND especially your understanding as their best resource!!! Seriously!!!

Well, this year I'm not as informed as usual. I haven't had the time to read all of the fine print to find all of the stinky stuff, as I usually do. Now, I'm relying on the strong stench I see coming from the ballot summaries to conclude a "NO" vote is in order, unless I see a compelling reason to support it.

Your advice is right on target:

PLEASE PEOPLE... IF IN ANY DOUBT, VOTE NO!!!

No doubt here, i’m voting no on 2 and 11!

Just the fact that AARP is for 11 should be enough to make anyone but a devout socialist vote against it!

The California Democratic Party and leftist interest groups ARE opposing Prop. 11 for self-interested reasons. Is the reform perfect? NO! But having politicians draw the boundaries against will entrench the Democrats more and diminish minority turnout in 2012. Republicans would be locked into minority status for another decade. I suppose safe seats have their appeal to politicians who draw them but the rest of us should have the right to hire and fire legislators at will.

THE HJTA has endorsed it. If you look at the NO side - it reads like a Democratic Party front group. Californians have two choices: let the politicians pick and choose their voters again or try something different.

I read up on the NO side and its reads like a who's who of labor organizations, latino and black organizations - all the main Democrat constituencies. And of course the state Democratic establishment is AGAINST it. We all know why. I doubt it has anything to do with the way the proposition's commission is structured but rather with the fact the Democrats lose their power to draw boundaries again for partisan advantage. Remember, the people who rigged California elections to keep Democrats in power are not our friends.

Yeah, I was wondering about Ted's take on Prop 11. That's been my long-running philosophy.

I've been leaning No on Catch 22... er... Prop 11.
