On todays episode of Ellen, Joe Biden told Ellen DeGeneres that if I lived in California, I would vote against Proposition 8. This initiative reads, Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California. Yet in his debate with Sarah Palin on October 2, Biden said that Barack Obama nor I support redefining from a civil side what constitutes marriage.
Catholic League president Bill Donohue weighed in on this today:
Proposition 8 is a civil initiative that would secure marriage as an institution that is exclusively between a man and a woman, and Joe Biden told Ellen DeGeneres that he is opposed to that measure. In other words, Biden did not tell the truth in his debate with Sarah Palin. He cannot logically be opposed to both gay marriage and Proposition 8, but that is exactly what he is trying to get away with. More important, Biden is openly defying both the pope and the bishops.
Last year, in his Apostolic Exhortation Sacramentum Caritatis, Pope Benedict XVI pointedly said the following about people like Joe Biden: Worship pleasing to God can never be a purely private matter it is especially incumbent upon those who, by virtue of their social or political position, must make decisions regarding fundamental values such as respect for human life, its defence from conception to natural death, the family built upon marriage between a man and a woman....These values are not negotiable. (My emphasis.)
Last year, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops issued Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship wherein it said that the family based on marriage between a man and a woman should be defended and strengthened, not redefined or undermined by permitting same-sex unions or other distortions of marriage.
Biden is in a major jam. He needs to hold a press conference explaining his irreconcilable moral positions, and why he has chosen to defy the pope and the bishops.
When does he get excommunicated?
Yeah, I’m beginning to wonder if the Clinton’s don’t have something major and The Two. He just keeps sticking his foot in it...
So this was another lie he told in the 2008 debate.
Wow, imagine that. Just a few weeks ago when he and Gov. Palin debated, he stated that he was AGAINST gay marriage.
This guy really can’t engage his mouth and brain simultaneously.
No, that process began on his ascension to Congress...if not before. Exposure through the campaign has simply heightened the affect.
The USCCB must move on this. . . it is an outrage.
Remarkable. Positively remarkable.
Mr. Biden has so many reasons to be humble(as we all should be), but he just doesn’t see them.
When, one wonders, will Mr. Biden endorse the idea of our marrying our pets and animals?
Is nothing sacred to this man?
Apparently not.
Whoa...this is classic Joe, The Biden.
He’s just biden his time til he changes his position again...
Exactly, he lied like a rug during that debate.
What I mean is purposely self-destruct.
So have fun in Hell Joe, there's a special wing for Democrats. You and fatso Ted Kennedy can sit around and reminisce about the 'good old days'.
He clearly lacks both principle and faith. No man or woman would support both abortion and homosexual marriage if they were truly principled and a person of faith.
That speaks volumes about what kind of people Obama, Biden, Kennedy, et al are. Their personal ambition trumps everything else.
They should be publicly announcing that Biden is no longer allowed to take Communion.
I wonder if Obama is going to lock Biden up in a sound-proof room after saying things like this.
It is sort of sad really...that he is trying to “gain the world while losing his soul”. Making the world and government and power his god, then when the day of reckoning comes, all that will be stripped away.
They are merely two people on the surface.
Heaven knows what's really going on behind closed doors.
I can only imagine what else Hillary might be up to when it comes to ruining the Obama campaign.
He’ll just send in a big donation and he will be able to continue calling himself a Catholic.
Keep talkin’ Joe. You’re the best Republican ad ever and you’re free.
As an RC outsider, sure seems like it to me.
