The race for Florida: Will Tampa propel McCain?

KEY REGION COULD BE DIFFERENCE; STATE'S A DEAD HEAT

With less than two weeks until Election Day, a new Orlando Sentinel poll hints that Republican Sen. John McCain may be gaining the traction he desperately needs to win Florida -- a state that's still too close to call.

The poll, by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research, shows McCain leading Sen. Barack Obama 46 percent to 45 percent. With a margin of error of 4 percentage points, that's a dead heat. Pollsters interviewed 625 likely voters Monday and Tuesday.

The numbers represent a 3-percentage-point shift from early this month when Obama held a 2-percentage-point edge over the Arizona senator. It is the first time since August that Mason-Dixon had McCain in the lead.

Perhaps most significantly, the new poll shows McCain leading Obama 47-44 in the Tampa Bay area. In early October, Obama had a 4-percentage-point advantage there.

Especially when you consider that there are 4 million in the metro area.

I’ve got my parents, my wifes, my brothers, and my absentee ballots to take to the Brevard County, Florida Supervisor of Elections office. Five votes going for the entire GOP ticket, and against retaining Charles Wells on the Florida Supreme Court, in that Wells is a leftist appointed by the late walkin lawton chiles.

There aren’t as many fauxbama signs as there were kerry/edwards signs in Brevard. I have said that we came away with plus twenty-thousand votes in the combined area of Brevard/Indian River Counties, and we should at least come away with that surplus in this years ge.

...Obama is much too liberal for native Floridians, but then there are those pesky transplants from the Northeast.

Believe me...my folks are "pesky transplants" and they tell me all of their NY & FL friends are voting McCain. The seniors do not dig Boy Wonder.

I have been having chats with my co-worker, (liberal, Democrat, Jewish) the last few days discussing Obama and the election. I finally was able to convince her for the first time to cross party lines. She just couldn’t stand the thought of voting for Obama. She and her husband just early voted for McCain.

According to the Friends, Mac has six Florida events in the next 12 hours. God bless him!

I’ll be a bit surprised if McCain/Palin don’t slightly exceed Bush/Cheney’s FL margin in 2004 (they won by 5 points, almost 400,000 votes).

Wow! Somebody needs to send this picture to Rush, Hannity, National Reviw and Drudge. ASAP! Drudge should put it front and center with caption - Obama pulling small crowds. Send it to his anonymous news tip section. Easy to do.

This is a terrible turnout for Obama! It is a JOKE! Sarah would have packed that place. She pulled 20,000 plus down the street in Clearwater.

Obambi was down in Miami at a downtown rally next to the Heat game the other day and did the rally around 6 pm during rush hour and just before the game. My guess is he gave away Heat tickets. The Heat cold called me 60 miles away to try to get me to buy tickets. The Heat suck like Obama.

We are not that liberal in the 3 big S FL counties. Dade will usually go 50/50. Broward 60/40 Dem and Palm Beach maybe 60/40 to Dems. Broward and Palm Beach have a lot of Jewish voters who went 77% Kerry but they are expecting Obama to only get 57%. I think Obama will do worse than Kerry in these 3 big counties.

McCain will get more blue dog Dems in the north. If Obama is drawing puny crowds in Tampa then we carry the swing I-4 corridor.

Obama is resorting to Mediscare.

Wells is on the ballot? Remember this is the *%#*@ scum that tried to steal 2000 for Gore. I hope this SOB gets voted out! LOL! This is going to be sweet.

People do not realize that Florida is still conservative. The illegal aliens have hurt but most will not vote. I get pissed off a lot of the time but FL is still a pretty good place. BTW - I am a native Floridian. It was like paradise when I was growing up. Nice people, weather etc.

I helped convince another lady who was just like the one you spoke with. She does not like Obama and was shocked that a 90 year old uncle voted for Obama. She read crap in the NY Slimes that Sarah was supposedly an “anti-semite.”

I said it would be a little tough because her maternal grandmother was Jewish. Lithuainian or Ukrainian - I forget which. She did a 180 then. Now she loves Sarah....welcome to the club. Once more vote and maybe more for McCain.

Yes, Mr.Wells, the guy that put the nation through so much agony in the aftermath of the 2000 General Election, is on the ballot. And this is the time for the good people of Florida to step up,and return the favor by rejecting Mr.Wells. It’s really a twofer, because we get another chance to posthumously vote against the Florida he-coon, Lawton Chiles.

I don’t know many native Floridians (my inlaws), so it’s nice meeting you. I’ve read many of your posts and your enthusiasm has been for me, contagious.

Keep up the good work, and we’ll be enjoying a victory celebration on Tuesday night November 4th.
