GOMA, Congo – Thousands of protesters attacked the United Nations' eastern Congo headquarters on Monday, expressing anger that a U.N. peacekeeping force has been unable to protect them from a rebel attack that has forced tens of thousands to flee.
Protesters lobbied stones and rocks over the wall surrounding the U.N. offices in the provincial capital of Goma. U.N. spokeswoman Sylvie van den Wildenberg said cars were being damaged and windows were being shattered.

Sounds like they need to stand with their own army and fight, rather than throwing rocks and bottles at foreigners for not doing it for them.
If these folks won’t fight for their own country, why should anyone else?
The more I see of this sort of behavior (like the idiots who riot when the free food doesn’t arrive on schedule), the more convinced I am that some peoples just aren’t ready for self-government. Like little children, they need a benevolent dictator to watch over them and keep them from hurting themselves and one another.

The army and gov’t forces are retreating. The unarmed civilians are on their own. The 17,000 U.N. peacekeepers are supposed to be helping them - that’s what they’re for.

I don’t know if you meant that to be sarcastic, but if not.....
If the peacekeepers were protecting the gov’t, then the people wouldn’t have to flee their homes, because the gov’t forces would be protecting the people instead of retreating from the rebel forces.
