Hi. One minute after I posted a warning about "african press int'l" website doing damage to visitor's computers and 30 seconds after I made a comment to poster "Danae", someone tried to attack my computer.
Here are details given me by my security team: 12:25pm 10/29/2008 intrusion: portscan intruder: 65.24.7.11(domain(53)) risk level: medium protocol: UDP
Any computer geeks out there? Thanks and fight on, Freepers and Lurkers!!
65.24.7.11 = dns-cac-lb-04.ohiordc.rr.com
Sounds like Time Warner was doing something...
I don't know how they could be related unless FR is giving your IP address to them.
Id stay away from the fools web site if I were you
Id stay away from the fools web site if I were you
I found this with a Google search of the number

I’m not a geek but married to one. I’m a geek by injection, I guess.
Sometimes my ISP has port scanned me that way. At the time I beefed up my linux based fiwewall and that took care of it. I now have a hardware firewall and don’t have those kind of issues at all.
Is your tinfoil hat grounded?
Well it seems to me his ISP was doing something, doesnt sound like it is anything to get worked up about.
Not going to touch that one.
That actually sounds like a typical tracking cookie warning.
UDP port 53 is DNS server port. There is nothing on end user computer that even listens on that port to ba attacked or infested by malware. It is probably a return DNS packet (initiated from your end and responded to by your ISP) or a UDP ping. False alarm.
The IP is a DNS server for Road Runner and is in Columbus OH. UDP is the protocol that DNS servers use.
Me neither. Perhaps the word “association” would have been a beter choice. :-)
We're from the internets and we're here to help you.
The packet in question was not an attack. It was the Domain Name Service (DNS), as evidenced by port 53.
Whenever you reference a fully-qualified domain name (FQDN) like "www.freerepublic.com", your computer must ask a DNS server what IP address to use. It's like a telephone directory, which returns a number like 192.168.1.1 (four numbers, each 0-254, separated by periods). Your computer then connects to that IP address.
DNS lookups are asynchronous using UDP. So, a frame is sent out, then you wait for a reply. But, no connection is maintained. If the reply is delayed long enough, some firewalls will forget that a request was sent out earlier and think that this DNS reply is an attack.
Something smells here.
1) got nothing to do with me.
2) you don’t reply to anyone on that site, you can’t. You post on a story thread
3) Why are you implicating me specifically?
Thanks a bunch.
Maybe someone is doing a deliberate crediblity hit job on me? Ya think?

On other FR threads in previous days and also at credible PUMA-sites,people are warned about going to the african press intl website. API can cause damage to your computer.
Spyware, viruses and such.
So dont take yourself out of commission in these crucial times, folks.
It is a scam and then some.
